    I think the author is on to something...

    My 12 year old son was first exposed to "Guitar Hero" by my brother who had the game at his house. We got him a copy for Christmas soon afterwards. A few months later, he expressed an interest in getting a real guitar and learning to play. I don't think that guitar hero really prepares a child to play the guitar but it may inspire them to try it out. The guitar runs in my family - I play and my father plays, but my son never expressed any interest prior to getting Guitar Hero.
