Why can't we have both?

A giant TV or a girl who's going out with me only to win a TV herself?

TV. The TV loves me unconditionally.

Mr. Farivar misses the point, again

This is not a show about technology. Nor is it about geeky men.

This show is about whether a woman can -- in just a few hours -- convince a man to give up a pricey piece of electronics just to spend a weekend with her. If she is successful, she wins a prize. If she is not, he wins the pricey electronics.

Being a Playboy show, the women will vamping it up, implying that they will do all kinds of things over that weekend. No quite prostituting themselves, but certainly not asking to me respected for their minds and opinions.

As such, this is a show fit for Broadsheet commentary. The link to Machinist? Rather none.

Mr. Farivar could have made his point by pointing to any reality show. Or any show. Or any library. Or any anything. You see, there's nothing geeky on this particular show. There's no router, greasemonkey, PHP, facebook apps or any of that. It's guy stuff, not geek stuff.

And so, I think that there are much more basic reasons why Mr. Farivar doesn't write for television. Though I remain at a loss for why Salon lets him damage their product with his garbage.

Yup...the answer is NO.

"I'm sure that loads of guys out there would love to be able to share their passion between the ears and between the sheets at the same time, and have them spiral out of control into a self-perpetuating lovefest. Can't we have our relationships (no matter how superficial or short-lived) and our geekery too?"

No, you cannot. Not unless you are the Trekkie world's equivalent of Brad Pitt.

Yes, there are cool dork/nerd/gamer girls out there. Unfortunately for all the 'Magic The Gathering' level 15 mages, out there, the dork male: dork female ratio is 100,000 to 1.

Just attend any Dungeons & Dragons convention if you doubt me!

So for now, dorkwads, refrain from telling your date about your latest World of Warcraft conquests...or venting about how a stage prop detail error in the 37th "BattleStar Galactica" episode caused you to involuntarily defecate in sheer rage.

It's your choice - quality time with a real, human girl...or back to ol' Righty, your hentai (anime porn) tape and that dwindlin' bottle of baby oil.

The TV I can use for at least a year

Some high maintenance surgically altered chick would not last that long. Even if she could open a bottle with her Kegels.

Oh, you guys!

Please post this on Broadsheet and let our contestants take a run at it!

"Gadget or the Girl"...why does the gadget get first billing?

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 06:44 AM

Please...

Don't answer that rhetorical question.

I'd buy that for a dollar

Seriously, I'd watch it once or twice. It'd be interesting to see how the girls would make the attempt to either win themselves a nice home theater, or win themselves a loyal guy who's smarter than them and 20 of their friends. Would I participate? I might do it just to spend the time looking at a pretty face and then go home and watch one or two hours of TV per week on the new big screen. Is there the possibility that a bubble-headed girl next door could create stimulating conversation with a guy, or have anything in common with him? Depends on what kind of fruitcake he is probably. Unless she's into racing, gaming, or programming, likely not.
