Despite not being an early adopter,

this is a toy I'll purchase the day it becomes available.

Being able to control a computer with one's thoughts is technological telekinesis.

That's a hecka achievement.

Some day soon

If this technology improves as rapidly as computer tech in general, this is ultimately going to be amazing. While motion controllers like the Wii's are more appealing in some ways because they get the body moving, controlling through thought could be used in combination with other controllers to provide a more seamless gaming experience. Some games/sims could be suited to use the mind alone, like a simulator that lets you 'fly' with thought alone.

Even more interesting to me are non-gaming applications. Yeah you have to train it, but once trained think about using it to control a web browser or any other program. Between thoughts, detecting of facial expression, and gyroscopic awareness of head movement, the constant use of hands alone for input could be at an end. The demo mentions medical applications, and the one that immediately occured to be is for people who are substantially paralyzed to control a wheelchair and so on.

Since a Software Development Kit will be released, and the product is said to come with software that can be used to control existing games (and maybe other programs?), if it works halfway decent even this first generation product may be wondrous.

Now, what is with the "Ed's" juvenile snarky comments in the article? Did the editor come from Car and Driver magazine?
