Charlie Rose suffers black eye in saving MacBook Air

The talk show host would rather scuff up his mug than his beautiful computer.

The letters thread is now closed.

Get Well Charlie

The PBS station in Austin is doing its quarterly campaign drive. So one of the first things to go is regular programming. Monday's show was not televised so I didn't know what had happened.

Get well soon Charlie.

P. S. Just think of the attaboys you would have received if you were the "guest coach" for Duke and had been showing one of the players your patented move.

Coulda been worse

He could have been chewing gum at the same time.

If thats what you call it

I was just surfing the TV and notice that somebody kicked the crap out of this guy. Then I watched and realized that this show was a publicly funded left-wing gripe fest.

NPR and PBS should be turned off and let the free market rule. I hope Charlie gets better.

Charlie's shiner

Oh yeah on 59th St. saving a "macbookair".

Yeah, right!

More likely, Rupert told him to do something that was

beyond even his pale.

MacBook Air my ever lovin' rear hole

What a scam.

Charlie got into it with someone or someone got into it with him. This is a BLACK EYE folks!

A not so clever cover up of the upteenth degree.

Charlie is as human as any of us. He most likely offended someone, even unkowingly, but nevertheless the black eye ensued.

Just tell the truth... unless litigation is under way or the MOB is behind this.

Repeatedly celebrities try to fool the public. This is nothing other than that. Come clean.

calgodot

What if she had a family that needed her and now was SOL. Aren't people at least on par with animals? We don't have to elevate people over animals but a little parity wouldn't hurt.

An Object Lesson.....

Get well soon, Charlie!

And thank you for reminding us that walking does require some degree of concentration and attention - neglect to watch where you are placing your feet at your peril. Yes, we have paved paradise, but far from perfectly.

I feel for him

New York's sidewalks are a deathtrap.

Yet more evidence....

That Mac users are obsessive.

Me, I would have saved my face. If a laptop can't survive being dropped a couple feet, then it's too fragile and I don't want it.

Bees sting without thinking

Angry Bees:

Your friend exhibited what we humans know as "compassion."

And you're right: you don't understand it.

I tuned in too late to hear the explanation.

I just assumed he'd taken a beating on Bear Stearns stock.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 11:04 AM

hmmm

how much do we know about who was that guy who sued the stripper because she kicked him in the eye?

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 08:41 AM

soooo been there

I've done more or less the same thing -- not because I was afraid that I'd mar the lovely matte finish on my macbook, but because I'm an academic, and I have so. much. work. on that baby I'd be seriously unhappy if I messed it up. And yes -- I *do* back up, but the protective instinct takes over. I almost broke my arm!

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 08:03 AM

Yeah I can relate

Saving the MacBook was a much better story than "taking a spill." He should've gone with it on the air and maybe gotten an endorsement deal out of it. I'd probably have done the same.

A friend of mine swerved to miss a cat, hit a tree

Wound up in a coma for 5 days with 176 stitches in her face. But you know, the stray furry appears to have survived. I really don't understand why people do that.

Face first...

"In doing so, he pretty much hit the pavement face first, unfortunately," producers told Arrington.

That? Was kinda awesome. Heh.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 05:01 AM

Heh. What is it with MacBook Airs and reporters?

Steven Levy over at Newsweek wound up with his MacBook Air in the trash compactor because it was on the table with a bunch of newspapers and magazines--and his unknowing wife tossed the whole lot out...

Relatedly, how durable is the MBA? It's so light and thin, how does it stand up to typical road-warrior stresses (bags on top of bags; bumps-and-thumps, etc...)?
