Please stop with the lame "eh" jokes. Yes, we say it, but not at the end of every sentence.
Wonder what percentage of their budget $300 million is? Wouldn't surprise me if it was about the same as what we spend on space. When technological advance slows to a crawl because we lack the metals to continue it, and Canada becomes overcrowded with refugees from whatever countries still haven't gotten a grip on population control by 2250 or so, they (and we) will be wishing they would have thought a little farther ahead.
Maybe if we start propagandizing the third world with videos of Doug and Bob McKenzie we can drive the Canadians to lead the next space race (because we are obviously not interested) so they can get the hell away from us.
When the Space Shuttle program ends, American manned spaceflight will be over for the remainder of this century. STS was built for heavy lifting and there no likely manned replacement, in fact in NASA's own plans there's nearly a 10 year gap between the end of STS and the beginning of the Orion program. In the meantime the LEO chores will be done by Russia for the residual efforts still on the books for the ISS. Which will also end, crash and burn in the next ten years. And that will spell the end of Russian manned flight too since they're only in it for the money. This leaves vanity projects for national pride by the Chinese and Indians. They plan on a few orbital shots as well as some form of moon transit and/or landing program sometime.
