Lame analogy
A security guard doesn't nab a shoplifter because it's "right". He does it because he's paid by the store, and the store would lose money. Since the content that is allegedly being "stolen" doesn't belong to AT&T in the first place, the analogy is worthless.
Also, I don't know about you, but I mind my own fucking business when I'm shopping. Somebody's stealing? Let the personnel, whose job it is, handle it. I'm not gonna get involved and possibly get entangled in legal problems. Which is EXACTLY the risk these guys would be taking. True, I don't expect them to care, since they could easily get Congress to collude in their fascistic crap, but that doesn't mean they won't have headaches in the courts until they get their way.
And of course, there's one thing we could do to thwart them (strange and difficult as it may seem to a lot of people): we could just cancel the service. It's perfectly possible to live without the internet. You just have to WANT to do it. Given the choice between living with Big Brother snorting over my electronic shoulder, or doing without, I know what my choice would be, thanks.
