Yeah, right
A private room, a double bed, free flowing champagne and hours of boredom. Singapore Girl, you're a great way to fly.
-
Hey, wait a minute...
What happened to "If we build it, they will come"?
-
Inverse correlations
Hmmmm..... When you reach the age where you are rich enough to afford those in-flight beds you are probably too old to have sex anyway.
Add a little alcohol (and doesn't a little have more effect at altitude?) and a little high altitude apoxia/hypoxia and the airlines figure they are on pretty safe ground in the fancy cabin.
Now puting beds in economy class would be a whole 'nother level of humpiness... you know how we young and poor proletarians are.

Does Salon pay that well?
Because I am 100% sure that I will never be confronted with that particular snub. I will be packed in the back like a train to Sobibor. I will be unable to move let alone copulate. So all I can say is that if your libido's that cranked and you can afford a private suite on Air Mormon, then charter your own plane.
-
How Would They Know?
I mean, unless Singapore Airlines has installed cameras or peepholes in these private cabins, no one's gonna know if you decide to have sex in one. (And if they have done that, you aren't going to want to have sex in there anyway. Probably.) So go ahead and have sex. If it's really disturbing to other passengers, the stewardess will start banging on the door. If Mr. Manjoo is correct and no one will be able to hear it, you'll be able to go ahead and have all the fun you want.

Dear AfterThat
Okay. I'll bite. Just when are you too old to have sex, anyway?
My guess is that you have no idea whatsoever.

Use the google
Just a random news article reporting widely available information:
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/health_science/daily/20070823_Sex_in_the_later_years_.html
"By the 65-to-74 range, a disparity set in, with 67 percent of men but only about 39 percent of women reporting they'd had sex within the last 12 months. Lindau attributed that to the fact that women tend to marry older men, and many in this age category had lost partners. Other women gave up sex because of health problems of older husbands. Sex starts to become the exception rather than the rule in the 75-to-85 group, in which 38.5 percent of men and 16.7 percent of women reported remaining sexually active."
People get older and richer in parallel (do I need to prove that correlation too?) and they have less sex... some lose the ability altogether, most lose some of the ability and urgency, and most gain a lot more self control.
I think the "old rich drunk folks >>> unlikely to have sex at 35,000 feet", and "young poor less drunk folks >>>> more likely to have sex at 35,000 feet" surmise is pretty reasonable, and the airlines are probably relying on it here.
(Of course, wealthier people stay healthier longer, and general good health prolongs sexuality, so THAT might work against my argument... but I think we all know that 75 year old couples are somehow less likely to get it on under a blanket in an airplane than are 20 year old couples.... for all sorts of reasons.)
-
Well... it's open to interpretation, isn't it?
"All we ask of customers, wherever they are on our aircraft, is to observe standards that don't cause offence to other customers and crew," the firm told the news agency.
Referring to the superjumbo's 12 first-class suites, Singapore Airlines continued: "Nothing different applies for our Singapore Airlines Suites customers."
-----------------------------------------
Hmmm. They didn't EXACTLY say, you know, you can't... you know. I mean it's hinted at, but there are a lot of things that could fall into this category- getting very drunk and making an a*s of oneself... etc. I mean, if you're very, very quiet... :)
Hehe I think it's just hilarious. But I thought Singapore wanted its people to get with the baby-making...
