To all the people shouting "fucking pigs" or "I hate cops":
There are good cops. There are bad cops. But this has absolutely nothing to do with individual cops. They were doing their job the way they were trained to, using the tools they were provided by their superiors.
The problem is not the cops. The problem is the training and procedures we accept as standard, reasonable security responses. Attacking the individuals as pigs guarantees that reasonable people will dismiss your opinion.
You cannot fix a systemic problem by blaming the individuals working within the system.
No further information is available on their whereabouts...
Republicans are sponsoring a bill to outlaw playdough, bread clay and mud from being displayed in the hands of humans, first offense, machine gun fire, second offense Guantanemo.... third offense will result in your are deportation to the North-Pole, Colin Powells photos show this as the confirmed location of terrorist toy manufacturing.
What, are you gonna just wait until some kid blows a mushroom-cloud of bubbles, with an electronic bubble inducer.
I agree with others. The police all over this country are out of control. What kind of bomber would pin their bomb to the outside of their clothes and then walk up the the airport information desk to ask for help? Coming just a couple days after the taser event at the University of Florida, it shows that the only procedure the police follow, increasingly, is the law of hysteria.
Honestly, I can't believe how many posts are slamming law enforcement on this. It speaks of the caliber of people here and to say the least, I'm disappointed. What would you have them do?
First, it wasn't like she walked into the airport with blinky lights and the police drew weapons. It says in a few articles that she approached an attendent at a desk. Those articles also mention that she was possibly holding some type of clay/putty substance and the attendent ASKED HER what was on her shirt but she didn't answer and walked off. The attendent called the police. To me, that screams that she is trying to get busted.
Second, are you all saying that because it has blinky lights it couldn't possibly be a bomb??? If you are, you are just as stupid as the people who commit hoax bombs. Why don't you try being a security person for a day. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that as soon as you get someone saying "it's got blinky lights so disregard it as a bomb" the next bomb will have blinky lights. The argument that "it doesn't look at all like a bomb" is just as irrelevant as saying "I know exactly what a terrorist would do because I'm sooooo intelligent." Get real.
Third, there are a lot of arguments that if it was a "real" terrorist there wouldn't have been time to react. That's bull. There are hundreds of cases where a potential terrorist got cold feet or the bomb didn't go off as expected. In those cases were the police supposed to not draw weapons and try to take the suspect down??? Get real again. If I have a gun and someone walks up to me with anything that looks like a bomb, I'm drawing my weapon and if they don't do EXACTLY what I tell them to do they can take it up with me in the afterlife. To say the police overreacted is just ignorant.
Finally, to G Lohman: Why would you put "The fact is, a dark skinned girl was wearing blinky lights, and was treated as a terrorist." in your post. What has "dark skinned" got to do with anything. You are an ass for trying to make this a racial thing. Very sad you can't make an argument without resorting to this.
Barney Fife looks like Andy Taylor compared to these dullards.
on point!
"There was no "fake bomb" there was an LED board which someone mistook for a bomb"
An LED board was all that could be seen; the officers had no way of knowing what it might be attached to underneath her jacket. The officers may have been a bit overzealous in their response, but they were absolutely correct to respond.
This morning I happened to be dropping off my husband, who works in Terminal C of the airport and so I was "lucky" enough to see this circus first hand. Walking into a scene where the police (machine guns pointed) were screaming at this little girl like she just killed a bus full of elderly people or something was awful to watch and literally one of the most terrifying things to ever be part of...until we realized that we were not, indeed, standing next to a bomb laden terrorist. I cant help but think that the response to this was not the greatest- yeah walking into an airport with an electronic device strapped to your shirt is reckless and irresponsible, but the hoodie she was wearing was clearly not a bomb- it was a tiny little rectangle with blinking lights in the shape of a star. Had I seen this girl walking down the street, I would not have looked twice- the police response to it was insane and utterly terrifying.
Stupidity starts at the top.
I was on an airplane that had to emergency land at Boston Logan airport because one of the two engines exploded and was on fire. A real explosion, with a real threat to life. After we disembarked the Delta Airlines flight (that was emergency diverted to Logan) we were met by...no one. No police, no emergency personnel, no representatives of Boston Logan Airport, no firefighters......nobody. Delta misreported the incident in the media as a routine technical problem, and the media reported it as such. I had to call the media myself to let them know what had really happened. I also called the NTSB and informed them of the truth about the incident. A real threat to human life goes unreported, a false threat gets national attention.
News.
