Grand Theft Auto 4 is not an exclusive for either system and will appear on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. There will, however, be additional downloadable content available for the 360 version only.
I love watching companies kill themselves. Sony is tearing itself apart for no logical reason. They're killing the one model that sells and lying to people in order to move the inventory. Then they're going to cheapen and strip down the more expensive model and raise the effective price of the same level of function. And the sales numbers already suck.
This is like the Simpson's episode with Hank Scorpio where they put Bart in the 'special school' and he shouts "We're already behind the other kids and you expect us to catch up by going HALF as fast??"
Funny thing is, the overpriced PS3 that went on sale here in march ALREADY is a stripped down version. It lacks the dedicated chip for PS2 games, that will be removed from the 80GB version.
So, the European PS3 already was cheaper to produce, hence more expensive for end buyers. Sony, like most companies, completely ignores the years long 35 percent (and rising) strength of the euro on the dollar.
Instead, it opts for parity, making the 599 euro PS3 in fact an 824 dollar console. The UK version is even more expensive. It's NUTS.
A genuine price drop would have acknowledged the euro-dollar reality and made the console more appealing in European eyes. Instead we get some unilateraly decided "perks" to keep the console at it's current price level.
I'd rather have the price drop, thank you very much.
It's in a way amazing to see them playing this high stakes game. [They should stop bundling Casino Royale with the unit, I guess)
It's not like Sony can afford to miss out on increasing the installed base. The arrogance in light of the perilous financial state of the company never ceases to amaze me.
Right now Sony is trying to find a way to reduce the stockpiles at retailers. The last I checked they had shipped out 6.5 million and only sold 3.7 to customers and that was after the fire sale of the 20 gig model. Now they are trying the same thing with the 60 with a large number of those "US" consoles being shipped overseas who will have to wait for the so called price drop. All and all not a bad plan. The question remains will it work though? The competition isn't sitting still and they both offer a lot more than the PS3 at this point to GAMERS. Out side of Blu-ray that is which many people couldn't care less about. (look at the sales between it vs DVD which upscales pretty well to HD) I know that many fanboys will say oh but it is reliable vs the 360, but it doesn't have a three year warranty for free now does it? Then they will say but they only have a 1-2 percent failure rate. Do the math if and I mean if they reach the 11 million sold by fical year how many of those customers are up the creek for $600. I had three PS2's because of that disc read error B.S. that they had to be class actioned into admitting so laugh now but the real reason so many 360's die is because we have games to play and we play the hell out of them. Mine broke after the 1 year warranty and guess what a brand new one is on the way for free so enjoy RFOM(call of duty 2 with aliens) and Motorstorm. Me personally I love playing Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Gears of War, R6vegas, Call of Juarez, The Darkness (rumble enabled version)Prey, Ghost Recon 1,2 and for a little variety Forza2, Viva Pinata ............... So look forward to Killzone 2, R and C, Lair, and maybe 2 others. I'm thinking of how sweet Bioshock, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, SC conviction, Too Human, CoD 4, Blue Dragon, Naruto, VF5 (online enabled version, Assassin's Creed, Army of 2, Ace combat 6 and a little know game maybe you have heard of it HALO 3. Nuff said except for all the 360 titles I mentioned will be on shelves this year!
