Don't rile the Gators, Nancy Pelosi!

A Florida Republican asks the speaker to postpone some congressional votes so he can go to the college football championship game.

The letters thread is now closed.

Maybe

Just maybe it was a calculated move by Nancy so as not to rile all the Seminole and Hurricane fans (enemies of the mighty Gators despite any state affiliation). After all, Alachua county is not that much of a swing area, whereas if she could pull in the panhandle and the south, yee-haw!

Things are tougher in the House

Now if this were the Senate, all that would have to happen would be for the Republican to threaten a fillibuster that day and Harry Reid would crumble faster than Kentucky did to the Gators on October 25.

football schedule

I can't blame Pelosi. This football game should've been played a week ago. Big bowl games should be played on or within 2 days of January 1.

J T

I completely agree. And to have it on a Thursday night just adds to the insult. It shouldn't have to compete for weekend time with the playoffs.

no sympathy here

UT Longhorns aren't playing in that game and they already beat Oklahoma, so the game is a sham anyway.

Respecting the President-elect's wishes

Obama favours a playoff.

What? Stanford fans don't count?

Sure, our team may not have been all that "good" recently but we are out there and we are in the Bay Area...

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 11:36 AM

Seriously...

You are not wearing that jersey out in public, are you?

Wednesday, January 7, 2009 11:48 AM

Luxury box seats, I bet.

I'm sure these assclowns only want to fly down to the game to hob nob with wealthy donors in their luxury box seats, plying themselves with steak, brie and champagne while securing money for their next election.

Otherwise, they could get a much better view of the game from their living room chairs in their homes in Virginia (that's where most of them live while in session). The game starts around 8-8:30pm. Even with late votes, they should be able to get home in plenty of time (even if they don't have DVR).

Get over yourselves

The world doesn't revolve around sports championships. Come Friday morning, nobody but a couple of disappointed congressmen are going to remember this row. It doesn't exactly thumb your nose at all the fans of a team to keep their congressmen away. (Some might thank you for not making it a political event.)

The world does not revolve around you

Stearns:The big game is on Thursday. Can I get a make-up exam?

Pelosi: Are you actually playing in the game?

Stearns: No, but I bet big on the Gators!

Pelosi: Kiss my skinny ass, bubba.

Compared to Nancy Pelosi giving Bush a free pass on illegal wiretaps

postponing a vote is a snap.

Come one...UT barely beat an over rated (again) Ohio State, and you think they should be playing for the national Championship? Florida should be playing Utah, not another over rated Big 12 team.

To everyone else, Andrew posted a nice, relaxed blog, get off of your political agendas for once. Geez....

Some people are more important than the rest of us ...

Yeah, I can just hear my boss' reaction if I asked him if I could blow off that late client meeting because I wanted to attend a football game ...

... yup, those crickets you hear would be a the you're-dumb-enough-to-ask-me-that I'd get.

Haven't you heard? It's a Gator nation.

What is TRULY important

is that MY Blackhawks are playing tonight and, I have season tickets~~~~front row--couch.

Since the Bull Crap Show will also be on tonight, I may check in between periods.

Championship, indeed!!

There is NO legitimate champ without a playoff.

You're kidding, right?

It's football you idiot! It's a game where the participants do little more than knock each other down.
