The casino tycoon who loved China

All that cash the rest of the world is sending to China? Sheldon Adelson, the third-richest American, is recycling it.

SO WHAT'S YOUR POINT?

You read a name on a blog and immediately know you have to "do something?" What a hoot!

Yep. That's how it works. Americans give their money to the Wal-Mart family members, who give it back to some other family, who gives it to yet another family, and it ends up back in the hands of one person's family.

Ah, the democratic-capitalistic American way of life...and communist China-capitalism, and corrupt Russian capitalism, and right-wing Israeli capitalism. Do we see a pattern here?

How embarassing.

Remember when Americans got rich creating real wealth? US Steel? Westinghouse? GE? Ford? Any of these ring a bell? Even Bill Gates made his fortune on something that had to be created first. Now we have Casino owners and FOREX traders held out as examples of financial success. The new breed of billionaire creat NOTHING. They are parasites who simply move money around and skim as much as they can off the top.

And the old style tycoon used his money for philanthropy. Even Gates created a foundation that actually does something for people. Now we have people like Sorros and Adelson, et.al. trying to leverage their parasitic, unearned money into political power. The new golden age has all of the inequities of the 1890s and none of it's redeeming virtues.

sheldon adelson's good fortune

For an even better understanding of Adelson's meteoric rise in China read James Fallows april 2007 Atlantic story about Macao and specifically the relationship of Tom Delay politicking in helping Adelson.

Just what I would have expected.
