India: Cheap gas is too expensive

The government can no longer afford to subsidize pump prices.

meanwhile ....

The German government is reducing subsidies for solar installations because the bill was getting to high.

Somehow, I doubt subsidies keep prices high in that realm.

But Salon Franciscans should be cheering

Poverty is Green. No gas no cars no scooters.

Other reasons?

Perhaps the Indian government looked at what is going on in countries that are too dependent on gasoline and decided it wasn't a good idea to subsidize the establishment of a similar addiction in India.

Oooh, look.!

Electro is being stupid again.

Poverty isn't green. Those of us who read and write know this. Poverty means a lack of options and a need to lean even harder on already stressed resources.

Maybe until you educate yourself enough not to sound like the fool you are you'd be happier posting over at Free republic.

What about socialized impacts?

Since the burning of oil-derived products such as gasoline has large impacts on public health and the environment that are not paid for by either the oil industry or the end-users, I would argue that we are heavily subsidizing fossil-fools in America. Unfortunately, since a major pollutant from the oxidation of fossil-fool is particulates that have been shown to lower I.Q. scores, I guess we are doomed to a population that is too stupid to make this industry pay its full costs.

$4.5 a gallon is cheap???

Yes, that's the price of gasoline in India... about Rs 51 ($1.20)per litre, 3.76 liters to a gallon. And that's in a country where ADJUSTED per capita income is about $3,700 per annum. I wonder how much of their income an average Indian family, even if they're using a two-wheeler.

I guess Americans, with incomes 10 times that of Indians, shouldn't be complaining about high gas prices.
