Paul Wolfowitz's next disaster

What's a guy do after orchestrating a failed war and bringing the World Bank to a screeching halt?

The letters thread is now closed.

Disaster indeed

Personally I'm expecting the Taiwanese to wake up one morning to find Wolfowitz has used the connection to sell Taiwan to China.

How does this jerk continue to find work?

Jesus H. Christ! Does he give the world's greatest reach-around???

Thursday, May 22, 2008 12:56 PM

Jesus Christ!

This guy needs to be homeless, period. It just goes to show, club members can get any job!

Your move China!

Well, the Chinese just named their aircraft carrier after the guy who conquered Taiwan...

Two can play at that game. We'll counter in the 21st Century American Way: put a war-mongering bumblefuck in charge. He'll learn em.

speaking of walking disasters

Is Wolfowitz the Isiah Thomas of international politics or is Isiah the Paul Wolfowitz of sports management? I just spent 10 minutes thinking about this.

Wolfowitz keeps popping up

This slime ball appears wherever there is money and or power.

He epitomizes everything that a civilized world abhors.

Getting Their Money's Worth

If indeed the gig is unpaid, the Taiwanese are guaranteed to get equivalent value for money.

Thursday, May 22, 2008 01:47 PM

Hey! Lay off Isiah!

At least he had a successful career as a player. That's more than Wolfowitz can put on his resume.

Plus he'll always be loved in Detroit.

Wolfowitz is only loved in much less savory circles... like Right-Wing Think Tanks.

Success is not required...

It's about contacts and connections. Who inhabits your nepotistic universe? For instance, why is Billie Boy Kristol a columnist for the NYT? Nepotism. It has nothing to do with talent, competence or success. Just like compensation packages for CEO's have nothing to do with competence. Who you know, bro?

Thursday, May 22, 2008 02:54 PM

Andrew, you don't like Paul Wolfowitz, do you?

But agreed.

Why is it that "important, serious people" as Glenn Greenwald puts it, can screw up EVERYTHING they've ever touched and continue to find work? Doesn't anyone judge these folks based on track record?

If I'm on the board of the Brookings Institute, or the PNAC, and I see a moron like Wolfowitz who can't buy a pack of gum without dropping the ball come begging me for a job, I don't say, "Sure Paul, come on in. We've got a corner office all set up." Instead, I pull the fire alarm and get everyone out of the building, just as a precaution, cause Lord knows the guy will somehow light the building on fire.

Wolfy is a walking, talking, nightmare. If he moves in next door, expect your roof to leak, your toilet to overflow, and your garage door to crush your car. And that's only because he's trying to mow the lawn.

Wolfowitz is Mr. Magoo

No disrespect to the fine cartoon character, and I did not think of it myself, but ever since I saw the comparison somewhere on line I can't get it out of my mind.

That wouldn't work. The rightwing nutjobs all seem to be like Wolfy, so you'd have nobody to fill your positions.

What was He Thinking ??

COWHEADSOUP: "Pablo? ..."

SENOR LOBROMISTA: "Si, Si, Senor Sopa ?"

COWHEADSOUP: "One ought to pause & wonder about the quality and seed of a man's education, indeed, his inteligimence, when he forever refers to an adversary as an idealogue of a 'Left Wing Think Tank' ..."

SENOR LOBROMISTA: "Lo Siento, Senor Sopa"

COWHEADSOUP: "I trust then that we won't have to discuss this matter again ..... Comprende?

SENOR LOBROMISTA: "Uhh, ..... Yup"

Here's the real problem

Thanks for the shout-out, man.

Finding a qualified individual with an east asia background is not easy since so many have China investments that could easily cause problems. And Pwolf has long service in Asia.

It's just another variation of the old problem: Taiwan has been totally neglected by the Left which views it with a simpleminded and outdated Cold War mindset, and the center-rightists are sympathetic but unsupportive. Who can the island count on for 100% support but the NeoCons? If centrists & progressives don't take an interest in the island's fate, then they have only themselves to blame.

I think this is bad for another reason -- associating yet another NeoCon with Taiwan is just another iteration of the vicious cycle in which centrists & progressives ignore Taiwan because it is a NeoCon area, and so NeoCons move in, which causes progressives to ignore it, which causes NeoCons....

Jaded Mandarin

This almost guarantees a war between the USA and the PRC over Taiwan.

Wolfowitz' Closest Call To Actual Combat.

I still remember when the insurgents bombed the hotel he was staying in and he emerged trembling like a spruce tree in the March winds.
