Well, if *this* doesn't get Al Gore off the fence...
...then Al Gore is just bound and determined to sit this election out for whatever reason. What must he be thinking about all this?
-
We had one
Someday, this country will get a real leader who will share some unpleasant facts about this country with its citizens. One of those facts is that U.S. oil prices have been suppressed for the past 60 years
We had one in 1978. Jimmy carter told the American people that the US could no longer afford to rule the world, that we were going to eventually run out of oil and we all needed to start learning to live with less and develop alternative energy sources. The Electorate has never forgiven him for it. Instead they elected B-movie actor who told them what they wanted to hear and started out his tenure by removing the solar panels from the Whitehouse roof.
Hillary's doing what she thinks will get her elected. Telling the American people the unvarnished truth has never been a good idea for a politician who whants to stay in politics.

@captainlarab
I'm sure Gore himself is not on the fence anymore after this. However, people who care about what Gore says probably fell off the fence many, many news cycles ago.

Hillary & The Elites
The fact that Obama doesn't appreciate this is just another example of his elitism and highlights yet again that he does not have the experience to lead a nation.
I'm sorry - maybe the working class wouldn't need a piddling tax cut on gas if Hillary and her horndog husband hadn't shipped millions of their freaking jobs overseas via NAFTA, free trade agreements with China, and 8 years of the strong dollar policy.
Talk about elitism.

Populism ...
... doesn't mean lying to people. It means telling the truth. If she wants to go after the oil companies, advocate nationalization.
A gas tax holiday actually lets the oil companies off the hook ... it is squarely aimed at 'big guvmit'. That is why McCain and Clinton II are on the same side on this one, as they are on Iran and NAFTA (secretly) and religion and several other things.

Appeals to Ignorance
Since Super Tuesday, Hillary Clinton's campaign has been one giant appeal to ignorance. Racism, voter suppression, gas tax phooey, throwing economists and elites (you know, people with college educations) under the bus. This gas tax idea has been universally condemned, but like most things in America, an appeal to our most base instincts will have the desired effect. Of course, there will be no gas tax holiday, not this summer and not if she should become president. But you never lose, underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

Therr Questions
How long has Hillary been in office?
What has she done to fight windfall oil company profits up till now?
Are you freakin' kidding me?
-
Picture this...and be honest
There are two gas stations on opposite corners; you need gas. One offers gas for 20 cents a gallon more than the other with a banner that reads "YOU pay the tax!" (you economically savvy elitist, you.)... The other station (20 cents less) advertises that "The Gas Company is being required to pick up the tax till September!" Now be honest here--which one do you fill up at?
It may be a gimmick--so's a $600 (or $1000 per Barak Obama) check to everyone but we're all hurting at the pump right now and it might take us a while to arrange some adequate public transportation or afford a Prius.
Economists know a gas tax vacation won't solve the real problems; Hillary Clinton knows that too. But she's willing to start taking on the Oil Companies and that is something new. You don't hear that in the sound bites that keep getting repeated.

Hillary the know-nothing
As if the last eight years haven't seemed like a lifetime, along comes Hillary to out-Bush George W. by proclaiming the laws of economics null and void. That's right, Sen. Clinton, just shake your tiny fist and rail against the MAN. That's so very effective, and you're so believable in that role.
When do you begin your crusade against the evil conspiracy called gravity?
-
resorting to cod-psychology
I don't usually resort to low grade psychological explanations, because what do I really know about someone's character, experiences, and motivations?
Nonetheless, I read this article and couldn't help but think: Senator Clinton has finally taken her ability to enable her husband's failings, and re-directed them towards the electorate. But instead of bimbos, it's oil.

The height naivete and being out of touch
Once again Hillary Clinton is practicing her expertise in the high art of political pandering. That's to be expected. What is baffling to me are the hordes of her rabid followers who actually believe this nonsense and are attempting to defend it. All it takes is a few google key strokes to realize that the "gas tax" is paid at production, not at the pump. Therefore it's a tax break for the oil companies, the exact people she's claiming to be against. Anybody who thinks these companies would pass on the tax cut to average consumers is either beyond naive, highly out of touch with reality, or overcome with severe stupidity. At this point I think her supporters are suffering from all three. Chalk this up as one more example of why the Clintons are not qualified to retake the Oval Office. They haven't even begun to grasp what it's going to take to safely navigate the monumental challenges currently facing this country. Anybody who thinks they are better be ready for the painful realization that, when she is elected, she'll be nothing more than G.W. Bush in a pastel-colored pantsuit.

Picture this...and be honest ???
Honestly?
You think this is how you take on the oil industry? By doing AWAY with consumption taxes?
Cool, let's take on the tobacco industry by bringing cigs back down to fifty cents a pack. That'll do the trick.
Honest?? My backside.

Absolutely right, IaintBacchus
I have been thinking about Carter a lot lately (who I voted for twice, and who really makes me look smarter and smarter for voting for him as time goes by.
