That's a silly argument. Do people NEED knee surgery at age 70? Do they NEED to own a car when they could strand at the bus stop? Do they NEED chewable vitamins, pap smears and purebred dogs? Do they NEED a 5 day work week?
We could propose a ban on all freestanding homes and force people to live in apartment complexes as part of our de-ruralfication program. Romania did this quite aggressively during the Ceaucescu era. Or we could outlaw families with more than 2 children.
Sure these sound insane (I hope) but the point is, uninventing something is silly.
