I guess Ron Paul's small government view is really anarchy the way he breaks laws
In Richmond, Virginia, his supporters post signs illegally, littering and trashing many neighborhoods. I've written to the campaign but heard nothing.
I can't support a man who blatantly breaks laws, especailly when it involves trashing MY home.
what a jerk. He doesn't care if HIS campaign pollutes on my property, as long as HIS views are expressed.

Too Late
As the comment quote below indicates most people think that our income tax pays for roads. Often people attack Paul or libertarianism with "who is going to build the roads? (dumbass!?)"
The truth is the federal government only contributes to highways and only via the gas tax supported highway trust fund. This "trust" fund like every other trust fund the feds administer is broke.
The only new roads in this country will be tollroads. Sorry, but libertarian solutions are here by default (and federal failure). The quote below contemplates per mile charges in the Ron Paul dystopia. Well, the fact is I work in government on transportation issues and we are talking about per mile taxes as the only alternative to point of sale tolling.
Libertarians do not want to end government. They just want it to realize its limitations. They want YOU to realize government's limitiations. Just because the government addresses an issue the problem is not solved in fact most often it becomes worse.
Libertarianism is not a call for Anarchy rather it is a call for better government.
"I can already see what a Ron Paul dystopian future would be like. All roads and highways would be privitized, of course, and instead of driving on them for FREE everyday you would instead have a small transmitter in your car that would charge your "Capital One/Chase Highway Account" 25 cent per quarter mile for the privledge of driving to work! In fact you would also be billed a monthly $25.00 surcharge for parking in front of your house (sorry! Capital One owns that!) If you don't want to pay $25/mo then park in your own drive way which is no longer "technically" your property sense it touches Capital One's road. But don't worry! Parking in your drive way would only be a $10 rental fee."

I for one am tired of being held hostage
We had county elections yesterday - that is, elections at the local and county level for some counties. And in every single one there were multiple bond issues. And for every bond issue the excuse is the same "Better Schools". That's the catch all for everything. Give us money or your kids will be stupid. We just voted in two back to back billion dollar bond issues 'For the Children'. Our school age population is growing 7-8%/year. About 1/4th of that is illegal aliens. The Schools set 1/4 of what we call the floor population to be students with no or almost no command of English. The School budget - which is regulated at the county level, has been growing at 12-16%/year every year for a decade. How many more schools do they need? 40? 93? Infinity? I'm not buying it. The counties need to held responsible for this funding because I swear to god the only thing they use it for is to hire more cops. Everything is cloaked in this eery "You don't HATE children, do you?" message. Gimme gimme gimme. Well screw you. Try improving outcomes first.

I'm not a libertarian but
I still think censoring an entire issue from your election coverage is wrong.
It's really creepy, in fact.

Loved the psychological analysis
Enjoyable to be sure. I enjoyed the attempt to decipher the programmers mind (being a programmer) and the joy of tweaking a thing that was wrong to get it right. The only flaw in the article is the pessimistic ending. Though as postings/articles go I appreciate the good writing throughout.

Very cool article
I'm a hard-core software engineer and I can really relate. (See my web-site www.ibobjects.com)
I got involved with a court case and it was then that I realized that lawyers, legislators, judges, etc. all have a parallel in the cyberworld. Lawyers are like programmers and judges are like compilers. It's pretty fascinating. I became to realize that politicians are more like cousins by trade to me. I think some day I am going to enter that realm when I get bored with explicitly obedient and subservient silicone.
Where I work all the programmers are die-hard libertarians. I changed from the Libertarian party to the GOP so that I can vote for Ron Paul in the primary. I used to be GOP until some years ago I really started studying out politics and applied my skills and understanding towards political matters. It is very clear the libertarian political system our founding fathers constructed is the best yet and to the degree we have perverted it we are suffering as a nation.
I support every last tenet that Ron Paul puts forward. I am able to see how it is one single underlying principle (beautiful simplicity) that weaves it all together. Liberty with rule of law protecting life, property and free intercourse with others (I don't mean sex...) will only lead to prosperity and realization of all of our own pursuit of happiness. Fortunately Ron Paul is also realistic that it will take a significant amount of transition to get us where he ideally sees. He is both a radical and a realist.
The fortunate thing about primary elections is many people don't bother to vote in them because they trust that their party has a good roundup and that their vote in the general election is what counts most. This hands the primary nomination popular vote to the candidate who is able to energize his voting base the most. Being that Ron Paul dominates every poll that involves people voluntarily stepping forward I anticipate he will strongly show in the primary election.
National polls are people calling pre-selected individuals in the comfort of their own home and asking their opinion on matters. I was called and I had to assert Ron Paul since his name was not given as an option. These two factors easily demonstrates to me why Ron Paul's showing in national polls is inconsistent with every other voluntary participation based poll.
Anyway, take care and happy coding!
