  • Ironic

Ahh, a coder has robbed our freedom to use our machines as we see fit to spread propaganda about "freedom".

Of course, Ron Paul is less about freedom for all than freedom to do as he likes. He is an Evangelical Christian who believes that there should be no separation of church and state and the founding fathers were all Christians. He complained about the Pledge of Allegiance in schools (he is for it being read in schools), but he claims to want government out of our lives. He is against the income tax; yet, he claims to be a Constitutionalist. Strange that the income tax is part of the Constitution.

  • A good piece of science fiction ...

... for which there is no evidence.

The analysis did not determine that there were any botnets infecting any computers anywhere.

Even if it were determined that a single person or group was using such slaves, how does that become "Ron Paul's botnet"?

    It's just a crude ad-hominem attack.

If I started spamming on behalf of Salon.com, would Salon condemn themselves for "allowing" me to promote them?

    Not likely.

  • Strange how this "botnet" has lead to such a fundrasing shocker.

You know, people are trying very hard to attack Ron Paul. The problem is that the only way they can find to do it is to go after some of his zany supporters. Are we all so naive? I'm sure Hillary has avowed Leninists supporting her but I don't think that means a whole lot.

Ron Paul has managed to translate a "botnet" into almost $3 million in donations for the month of October alone. Those are some major numbers considering the average donation is reported to be around $50.

All of you need to wake up and stop thinking there is some grand conspiring army of "spammers" out there inflating his numbers. He raised more money than Romney last quarter for Christ's sake.

Also, in regards to the above post, the income tax is was NOT in the Constitution of 1787. In fact, an unapportioned tax like the Income tax was forbidden by the original document. The 16th amendment, which is what is cited to justify the income tax, wasn't added until 1913. For the first time in American history, all American's turned over the ownership of their persons, property, and labor to the US Government. Isn't it nice that we're allowed to keep a percentage of it?

  • 1st wave of the Ron Paul Smear Tsunami Sighted!!!

It appears Ron Paul has finally been noticed by the MSM, now it is time to take him down!!!

I find the "journalism" as it is used in this instance to be beyond reprehensible and the fact that Fox News, Wired, ZDNEt among others and all organs of the MSM and owned by large corporations are the 1st to write of this "outrage" to be somewhat "curious".

Referring to the 1st article that prompted all this speculation and subsequent brouhaha:

The biggest issue here is that there is not a clear understanding of causality here. The article implies that Paul's support is mostly composed of underhanded means, such as hacking polls and sending spam emails to create the illusion of support, when what's really at hand is one isolated botnet.

Now just because the botnet exists doesn't mean it created or fluffed up Ron Paul support. In fact, it's very likely that the spam only started going after Ron Paul had already become popular on the net, thus giving someone the idea of viably sending out Ron Paul spam.

The way the article is written is terrible in the sense that they imply an awful lot of things for the little fact that they have. It's writing that's very skewed and doesn't address the issue of the which way the causality points in this situation.

At least Salon comes at it from a new angle and doesn't imply that Ron Paul himself or his campaign is directly responsible for email spam appearing in peoples inboxes. For this, I thank you very much.

  • the real challenge is telling the difference

A botnet or one of his flesh-n-blood zomboids. Hard to tell the soulessness of one from the other.

  • Ron Paul is my hero.

All I know is that I am a 39 year old lifelong Republican whose party left her. I have taken it upon myself to do what I can for Ron Paul... I give money and have bought signs and bumper stickers. I have signed up for November 5th. I love Ron Paul.

  • This is a PRO-RON PAUL ARTICLE!

People, this is SATIRE! This is obviously poking fun at the "Ronbot" cliche. Please, please, PLEASE read the entire article before posting indignant comments! This kind of reactionary behavior is what gives the whole campaign a bad name.

  • I support Ron Paul

I am a career Naval officer who has been politically neutral for my entire life, but voting for Ron Paul is about voting for America and our Constitution, which I took an oath to preserve! I am now supporting Dr. Paul with my wallet--and my heart.

And all I can say about my libertarian-minded botnet is that, well, it has a fundamental right to self-determination. Botnet rights, Lol.

  • Are you part of Ron Paul's botnet

Are you part of a neocon attack on freedom of speech? This smells of "Rove tactics", and it may just backfire. Ron Paul's campaign does not need to cheat, the other campaigns probably think they do, and they may just be right. Ron Paul campaigners work diligently to bring about a better America.

A more likely explanation, that fits very nicely actually, all things considered: http://www.nolanchart.com/article259.html

  • Are you calling me a botnet? Or how do you explain real supporters?

I won't pretend to argue your claim about a Ron Paul botnet...that's really not the point. What frustrates me about your article is that it doesn't address the fact that Ron Paul has real supporters...yes, I AM A REAL PERSON, passionate (for the first time, mind you) about a real chance for change for the good in our nation. I have donated a lot of my own time, money, and now these comments in order to help contribute to the grassroots efforts of electing Ron Paul. I am 24 years old and have only voted for the "best" of the choices before me, but I am actually excited about a Ron Paul presidency. At 24, my eyes are being wide opened to the impressive influence the media really has and it's often times biased slander. It is not fair or right to report on a botnet while making no mention of the FACT that Ron Paul (an unknown, "hacked") candidate is 3RD PLACE in fundraising - go figure. Wake up, you guys, report the real news.
