  • Your point is interesting, but...

    ...you ignore the reason for the Pure Food and Drug Act passed in the US in the early 20th century. Consumers were largely incapable of determining what food, from where, caused their illneses, and so they wouldn't know who to sue. And as a result the US government stepped in to supposedly regulate a minimum level of quality.

    Obviously, the US government isn't doing that with food imports from China. Neither, for that matter, is the Chinese government regulating the quality of its exports.
