Another quote from the Foreign Affairs article

As found in his Wikipedia entry, there is this gem from the article you mentioned:

People driven by enmity or by a need to dominate will not respond to reason or goodwill. They will manipulate civilized rules for uncivilized ends.

Although from the context, he is talking about those "evil" operators in the world, doesn't this apply equally to the little cabal he was in at the time, the Vulcans? Doesn't it especially apply to Wolfowitz?

On the plus side, Wikipedia does suggest that his departure from the State Department stemmed from his frustration about lack of action on Darfur. Gosh, Bush talks about Darfur this week, then nominates Zoellick. Interesting.

Mr. Leonard, You ARE Evil, and So Am I

Many of us are evil enough to be tired of apologizing for our leaders.

When the new World Bank nominee said,"..this agenda may involve improving basic health..," he could have been speaking of Americans, but he did not even know it.

How's yer Life Expectancy? How's yer American Ideals Expectancy? What's yer favorite country? Will the Neo-Cons send yer Social Security checks there?

Why Am I not Surprised

Thank you for the brief and to the point bio of Robert B. Zoellick. I just read the UP glowing blurb on his nomination. My first thought was, "Well at least he sounds qualified for the position", rarely a given when it comes to a Bush appointee. This was quicly followed by my next thought, "What's wrong with him?". I made a bee-line for Salon hoping for an answer. Thank you for promptly providing one.

Update on the Darfur action

In the second half of my post yesterday, I mentioned Zoellick's apparent advocacy for Darfur and the fact that Bush announced sanctions on Sudan just as he was preparing to nominate Zoellick for the World Bank post. The San Francisco Chronicle has an article this morning that makes it clear that these "sanctions" are merely symbolic: http://tinyurl.com/2g3rlt.

Sadly, we most likely will find that Zoellick's current status in the world press as an "acceptable" candidate to head the bank will be just as symbolic and that he will carry on much of the ideology he shares with Wolfowitz even though he comes in with more credentials in world finance.

And you were expecting.....

What? The undead zombie of Emma Goldman? The Black T-shirt and hankie over the face crowd throwing gasoline bombs at the cops?

paralysis

Sometimes a "a state of complete paralysis" is better. I like my neocons paralyzed, not empowered.

ONE OF US!!!

Please, God, kill all of the Neocons. Right now.

Which of the 6 key points of the World Bank Group Engagement on Governance & Anticorruption plan do you object to so much?
