Despite its location near Christmas on the calendar, Chanukah's really Israeli Independence Day, 2000 years or so ago.
I do like the biofuels angle, tho'!
I didn't know Olive Oil was combustible enough to burn in a lamp.
Its not really Zionist environmentalism. More like Jewish or faith based environmentalism.
Andrew- how serendipitous! I was just on the same website trying to figure our what COEJL does as I prep for my next post on http://www.jspot.org/. Here's a preview:
1) Democrats, liberals, and progressives may have retaken Congress this year, but I would argue that the victory should not distract us from the longer-term objective of renewing ossified institutions of America’s liberalism.
2) Progressive renewal means bold new ideas. Renewal means visionary new leaders. Renewal means organizational change. Renewal means strategic alliances. Renewal means new tools.
3) Especially with respect to energy & environment - progressive renewal means Big Ideas - not incremental actions. As you say - more renewables - not just Priuses - more biofuels - not just fluorescent lightbulbs.
4) Check out http://zackexley.com/2006/06/22/fluorescent-bulbs-and-the-revolution
5) Is that something COEJL and its interfaith allies are willing to advocate?
