I like the way that word sounds.
... that the "embargo-ed" Cuba, from what I've seen of it (thus mostly hotels) - the ones "owned" by Fidel's brother (Cubanacan or some others) are all running M$ software ...
More things that make you wonder ...
Cheers,
EmGer.
Laws of copyright protection are not clear in Cuba (as every other law). In Cuban Universities, students get copies of U.S. books and is really easy to find a copy of Windows or any other famous software.
As no copyright law is enforced, and nobody cares if you copy a book or a software, it is very easy to find any kind of software. People get pirated copies from Mexico or China or anywhere. One copy in Cuba is enough to clone it as much as needed.
In Cuba is easier to get a copy of Windows than to get a copy of any Linux flavor. For Linux, Internet access is required, and that is very very very difficult in Cuba. For Windows you only have to ask in any place with computers. They will probably borrow you their CD for you to clone it (you only have to find a burner).
Everybody have copies of Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003. Why they will look for Linux when Microsoft costs the same ($ 0.00) and is more compatible with the rest of the Cuban world? Linux in Cuba is only for a small group of IT people who want to play with something different.
Cuba restricts access to freedom of speech and freedom of literature. There have been many people imprisoned for simply expressing their opinion. I had a family member imprisoned for simply giving voice to their opinion; eighteen (18) years! Anotherone was falsely accused of being anti-revolutionary and serverd ten (10) years. Anotherone tried to flee the island on a sailboat and was imprisoned four (4) years. Two where farmers and the last was an architect. These imprissonments happened between 1965 and 1984. Can you imagine being imprisoned 18 years for simply saying that "I don't like my leader". Sadly nobody other than exiled Cubas cares about this and nobody protests or expresses their opinion. A few years ago there where 75 intellectuals imprisoned and nobody even knows where they are. Damn Fidel Castro and his IT restrictions. Viva Cuba Libre!
