Hofstra's engineering programs
Dear Mr. Wittstruck,
I'm a senior in mechanical engineering at Hofstra University and am searching for a senior project. These projects can be just about anything but my expertise is in the burgeoning field of mechatronics. Mechatronics is the application of computer control to mechanical devices to make them perform complex tasks.
Your recent comments on washing race horses made me think. I have loved horses all my life and believe I can solve your labor problem and washing problem in one stroke. If you can cover the cost of materials, I and several of my colleagues would love to build you a prototype horse washing robot for our senior project. If it works, you can share the rights to the machine when we go into production. There is likely a worldwide market for such a device.
When can we start?
Sincerely,
DJT

Plan B
I have a better solution. Slaughter the horses and serve the burgers at a big ol' heehaw jamboree.

A Grain of Salt
When somebody says that they're hiring foreigners at higher wages than Americans, and jumping through allegedly difficult, time-consuming and expensive legal hoops, all because they can't get American workers, maybe they're lying?

Grooms...
I have *never* seen an advertisement for a groom in my local newspaper.
1) These people are not trying very hard.
2) They state that it isn't a well paying job even though the conditions are iffy at best.
3) There are no hard numbers in the article. Hence, it is hard to evaluate and claim.
4) The objective is to exploit the worker.
5) Why hasn't the industry gone to vocational schools in search of workers?
6) Why isn't the industry willing to train grooms?
7) What does a typical ad look like? Must have an even temperment and physically able?
8) Last time I checked, horses are capable of breeding and surviving on their own.
The arguments do not wash.

You've never spent any time at a stable, have you..?
Mexicans are some of the premier horsemen around. There's a link missing between the agrarial world and the so far short-lived "modern" world in which our skill sets involve clicking mice and sitting in traffic.
Think YOU could handle a horse, buckaroo..? There's a reason Mexican grooms are in high demand. Something is missing from Americans, most of them, anyway, that allow them to handle horses effectively.
