Without doing high value added tasks like assembling cars, we aren't going to be buying many cars at all.
If Delphi ships its production to China as it is discussing, that will be 30,000? 40,000? fewer US employees and that many fewer cars sold by GM.
As long as people are borrowing against their homes to buy cars, not producing things of value for export to buy imported manufactured goods is not a problem.
When borrowing against assets isn't possible, and the purchase of goods needs to be funded with the proceeds of a value added work activity, the number of work activities that are that high value added may be too few to allow many people to buy cars.
With Delphi shipping production elsewhere, I am guessing that GM's market share will drop a noticeable amount simply due to fewer customers.
