The WebWorkerDaily Firefox Add-Ons Collection

To celebrate this week’s launch of the superb Firefox 3.5, we’ve put together a collection of the WebWorkerDaily team’s favorite Firefox extensions. You can subscribe to our collection here; as we discover useful new add-ons, we’ll add to it over time. The great thing about add-on collections is that you can pick and choose which add-ons to install, so if you don’t agree with all of our choices, you can just pick the ones that you like.

Snap Links

Snap Links is one of my favorites. It allows you to highlight a page (or part of a page), and every link will open in a new tab. I sometimes have to check out lists of links, and opening each link one by one is time consuming. This way I can highlight a group of them, then go for coffee. By the time I get back, they've all loaded, and I can easily skim through all of them. Very handy. I also like Colorful Tabs, which gives each tab a different color.

However, I haven't been able to get Adblock Plus to work with the Salon site. I think it has something to do with the advertising splash screens. I kept getting blank pages, and I finally had to turn AdBlock off for Salon. (I don't mind looking at ads if it pays for the site, but I hate the pop-ups.)

Adblock Plus missing

Adblock Plus is really useful and fun. I like to see how many delusional ads for real estate Adblock can kill on the main NYTimes webpage.

Generally: though Adblock Plus is good at getting rid of repeated visual clutter, particularly those flashing adds, that aren't actually flash media.

I almost never have the urge to use it when reading the Salon site, though.
