Telcos to Congress: More Money Please

An association of small telecommunications providers, some of them rural, has taken a look at the broadband dollars in the stimulus bills making their way through both houses of Congress and said, “Please sir, can I have some more?” What’s more disturbing (although just as predictable), is they want to lower the speed requirements to 1.5 Mbps downlink.

Most cities don't have those speeds

Once again the Salonocrats with their MacBook Marxism are perfectly happy to pretend they're helping poor people at the expense of the middle class.

But...

But the telco's have already gotten the money to provide high speed internet to the entire country.

Bill Moyers did a whole show on the money that the telco's got from congress to do that, years ago.

Well, the telco's said that 'their reach exceeded their grasp' and they 'couldn't deliver' but, 'congress, can we keep the money anyway'?

Congress said yes.

I pay $225.00 per month for 2 phone lines, my cell phone and DSL. There should be enough money in that to provide the entire country with fiber optic cables to your door! Especially if they charge the same for all people that have the same service as I do AND will cut their extravagant management salaries!

That's $2,700 A YEAR! And I get 3M down and 756k up! We are being robbed!!!
