Maybe Yahoo Was Destined to Flounder

Come Tuesday, Yahoo will step up to deliver its most recently quarterly results, which I doubt will be very much fun. Still, it will be the first time recently appointed CEO Carol Bartz will have a chance to publicly address the most significant question facing the company: When is it finally going to take steps to turn things around?

The letters thread is now closed.

I thought yahoo already was acquired by someone

I have Yahoo and I know the DSL, or "Yahoo HSI", bill comes from AT&T; the company which swallowed up, first, SBC global, which first swallowed up little in state phone services such as our former messy local combo of both Connecticut's SNET + Woodbury telephone. My sister, I think, had Yahoo high speed DSL over in New York's Long Island with Verizon Tel.; which of course was the big phone company produced when[ org NY tel.] NYNEX > Bell Atlantic merger became Verizon [ she worked for them as an Executive Sr. Programmer and when verizon was on the horizon, got the fuck out after 26 years of mergers with an 80% pension buyout].

anyway, so they all must use this Yahoo HSI as what comes with the telephone package, be it Verizon, or AT&T which I think may now have CA/OR's Pacific Bell as well. I love many of the yahoo services but have had my bitches with some of the shit that they have done when I got them. A few things I liked were being able to choose Salon.com for news instead of reuters; choosing this Florida gal's blog " My So Called Lesbian Life" at Salon Blogs; thus customizing the home page to get rid of all the generic, " popular trendy people's mindless horseshit focusing upon whom the next asshole on American Idol would be and all the hollywood gossip & fashion horseshit that nearly every individualism-challenged office girl feels is so important in life!

That, and the free Yahoo radio site where I can hear indy stuff from feminist-lesbian artists such as Ani Di franco, Indigo Girls, Poe, and more!

Things I disliked were being that the fuckers at Yahoo simply decided to merge a former screen name, " Lucifus67" with my new Yahoo subscription account. It was a screen name I'd used for Yahoo chats many years ago as well as the former Marilyn Manson "Shitty Chat" at Beseen.com and also former Gothic Tears.com Poetry/rants site[ Lucifus]. this back in my angry at the whole world,pre-transgender transition days when I would hang out with all the Goth Kids.

And I just would have preferred to get ride of all the unhappy reminders of my past; something which Yahoo's "well-paid" India workers could not understand when I requested that be taken off the account![ 'Lucifus', by the way, came from the first 5 letters of Lucifer, the " devil" and last 2 of Jesus, the supposed " Christ"; as I used to be heavily into Anton Szandor La Vey's well-known San Francisco " Satanic" Church due to my hatred of "Christians"]

As for the Microsoft offer? well recently I got FireFox 3, slightly frustrated at first with being unable to still get Yahoo radio and my favorites column; something I discovered was easily remedied by downloading ' Plain Old Favorites' and IE add-ons from some site somebody recommended.

MicroFucked Internet Explorer, while convenient, was basially a piece of shit which kept crashing/opening slowly/freezing up. it also, on this 3 yr. old HP computer, my sister's former PC; would not properly print map texts from mapquest.com. FireFox, while difficult to figure out how to " paste" from ' File', seems so much faster and better except when first opening browser. [probably AT&T Yahoo DSL's ' premium" 1.5 GB's service- which I'm fixing to upgrade to the Pro 3.0]

I have heard much the same about the Newish Microsoft windows Vista sucking ass, along with some techie once explaining that Microsoft's nothing more then a huge, money-machine conglomerate which is out to screw over every other software company including all the Silicon Valley and other upstarts like the FireFox!

So who knows what Yahoo should do or not do? I guess I was mistaken as to AT&T owning them, but should have guessed this coming by how their internet radio's being taken over by CBS; whom I'm sure will fucking censor it to Southern baptist standards like their fucking on-air TV & radio networks already are! [ after all, we don't want the children to hear what those NFL football players are really saying down on that field to each other, do we?]

my limited personal experience

i agree that yahoo is disconnected with users. my pet peeve is about when i am using my computer and some sends me a link to something on yahoo. when i click on the link, do i get to see the page or article, no, i get a demand to sign in to my yahoo account. since i do this so seldom, i first have to ask yahoo what my password is. then go and find their reply. then, go back and find the link again. usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. the result is i will never open any link that requires a yahoo log in. so, yes, they have driven me away. i assume i am not the only one.

chart

The chart you use is meaningless. Both Microsoft and Yahoo mirrored NASDAQ as did most other stocks. Do you really think if a good merger or buy out had been arranged that their stock would have bucked the entire US market?

Can you actually blame them for rejecting Microsoft

Ballmer is a horrible leader, a poor exec and an insane egomaniac. MS is a fat lazy steamroller living on its $50 billion cash pile. Everything it touches BESIDES Windows and Office turns to shit, especially every online venture. Yahoo is trouble but it needs someone running it who isn't of the MS mindset, which is - let's loose more money than all the competitors until THEY go out of business.

Maybe Yahoo Was Destined to Founder

I normally detest spelling Nazis, but when the error is the headline it is contributing to the degeneration of the English language...

Yahoo is currently floundering, perhaps destined to founder. "To flounder" is an ongoing condition, "to founder" is terminal.

From Dictionary.com:

Usage Note: The verbs founder and flounder are often confused. Founder comes from a Latin word meaning "bottom" (as in foundation) and originally referred to knocking enemies down; it is now also used to mean "to fail utterly, collapse." Flounder means "to move clumsily, thrash about," and hence "to proceed in confusion." If John is foundering in Chemistry 1, he had better drop the course; if he is floundering, he may yet pull through.
