Apple Could Launch iTunes Version of TV Everywhere: $30 Per Month for TV

Apple is recruiting TV networks to go in on an iTunes TV subscription offering, according to Peter Kafka at MediaMemo. For $30 per month starting “early next year,” users would be able to watch episodes via iTunes. This is actually something that had been suggested to the company by prolific Apple prognosticator Gene Munster, who recommended in August that Apple charge $30 to $40 for a sub-library of its TV shows in order to recruit customers away from their $85-plus per month cable bills.

I'd sign up in a heartbeat

This is a great idea, my family would subscribe-- there's lots more TV content that I want to watch on iTunes than Netflix, and the lack of streaming support is actually a plus. With both netflix and hulu.com streaming the quality is spotty; on most nights the shows stutter and stop for minutes at a time. (Caused on the server end apparently-- our network bandwidth is 12mb/s down.)

Owning the shows is well received at my house; we watch episodes of Glee and Battlestar over and over again and would appreciate having them available.

What the article doesn't mention is advertising, which would be a clear win over Hulu.
