What the Electric Coda Sedan Says About the Future of EVs and China

The electric Coda Automotive sedan, unveiled yesterday as the first highway-capable model from low-speed electric vehicle startup Miles EV’s new spinoff, isn’t just “made in China.” Companies based in China, including Hafei Motor and Lishen, have been working with Santa Monica, Calif.-based Miles throughout the development of the car, which is set to carry a $45,000 price tag when it rolls out next year in California.

Electric is Almost Here

That [price] puts it in the high end for the mass market.

But the looks and features (interior shots?) appear to make it a $45,000 Corolla with a hundred mile range. It might sell to a few guilty and wealthy Hummer owners, buy-any-car Jay Leno and other assorted pretending to be green celebrities whose other car is an Escalade, but where's the value for my forty-five grand? Gimme a clean diesel instead.

$45K is too much

I'll be much more inclined to buy the BYD if it comes here. I certainly can't afford a $45k car, and more and more people are in the same predicament as I. I so want to buy an EV or hybrid, but I can't afford it.
