    You never would have seen most of these letters in an older newspaper or magazine,...

    Maybe that is the main value of the internet. No "professional gatekeepers". It does force you to have a better bullshit detector, but you get exposed to a wider range of information. And there is a lot of bullshit out there, as you know.
