Ask the pilot

If you're a pilot, no matter how much skill you have, or how many lives you've heroically saved, the only thing that matters is seniority.

    Railroad Seniority

Yes Patrick, railroad seniority works much the same way...as pointed out by some of the responding letters. Its all about TIME. I have 31 years in with a major railroad. My seniority would take me from St. Louis to Cleveland to Louisville and I could displace many people from some of the best jobs on the line....but I don't want to. I like the spot I'm in hearding boxcars around a less then major hub o' the system 5 days a week. Appreciate your column very much...amazing the parallels you guys have to railroaders too. Extra boards, prior rights, job bidding...even FELA and NTSB and staying in crummy hotels...ya gotta love it or ya really hate it.
