About Reagan National:
My father, a staunch Republican, made a very good argument that the closest airport to the capital of the USA should not be named for anyone. Most people from DC (my hometown) agree with this, regardless of party loyalty. Unfortunately, the GOP declared Reagan dead in the early nineties and decided to name everything they could after him. My dad and I concocted a plan to make cheapo plaques and christen various Ronald Reagan Dumpsters and Ronald Reagan Porta-Potties in retaliation, but we never followed through. Someone should do this for Baby Bush.
About That Smell:
I think it's hydraulic fluid. I'm sure that's the strong smell at the entrance to the plane, but since it's very viscous I'm sure it permeates everything eventually. Maybe it's a combo of hydraulic fluid and "new car smell", i.e. the vapors that come off of the molded plastic they use for nearly everything in a plane.
