Ask the pilot

In search of the ever-elusive "truth," the pilot takes on the 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

It wasn't a plane, it was a sandwich

Perhaps this will settle things once and for all...

Probably not, there is the disturbing lack of melted cheese in the crash area.

truth

a well written overview of the topic that answers all questions one hears about it all being one big conspiracy .

well done and thank you

hope enough people read it and absorb it.

debunking conspiracies

since I see everyone reading 'The Da Vinci Code' on airline flights I assume you're an expert on that as well...so could you settle the controversy surrounding 'The Da Vinci Code' once and for all too? that would be great! thanks!

Why

9/11 occurred because Bush Sr. and his cronies had stolen 240 billion dollars through a Brady Bond scam in the early 90's. The bonds were due to mature on Sept 12, 2001. Guess where the records for the bonds was kept,Cantor-Fitzgerald, floors 101-105 in the North Tower WTC.

To John Doraemi

Hi John. You're an idiot.

Sorry I couldn't be more tactful. After all, Salon is a liberal site, and we're meant to be tolerant of other people's lifestyles and alternative ways of thinking.

It's just a pity- you're an idiot and I really can't think of any nicer way of putting it.

Huh?

Sukinch stated the following:

"For those that think that conspiracies are too difficult because of the number of people involved and eventually someone will talk the easy way to debunk you is this: WMD.

What percentage of Americans thought Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? 70%? 80%?"

This point proves the opposite. Yes, Bush & Co. used lies and disinformation about WMDs to launch a war. Then what happened? The conspiracy was too difficult to maintain because of the number of people involved and eventually people talked. Hell, Powell himself admitted that his U.N. presentation relied on faulty information.

The 9/11 'conspiracy' has lasted four and a half years without any whistleblowers. The WMD conspiracy lasted less than a year before it was blown.

Besides, WMD was not so much a conspiracy as an example that the general public is stupid and can be easily hoodwinked by political spin. The official account of 9/11 is defended by most independent experts in various fields and debated by others. Conversely most experts, organizations and even other countries never supported Bush's WMD 'intelligence'.

Thankfully I'm pretty safe from all the dangerous people up here in the Arctic.

Math is a Way to the Truth

If you stand on top of a bridge and drop two bowling balls they will, all other factors being equal, hit the ground at the same time.

However, if one of the balls had to penetrate say, 100 panes of glass, its progress would be slowed, and it would impact the ground somewhat later.

The official version would have us believe that the towers collapsed progressively in that as the first floor collapsed it impacted the next floor which then collapsed, and so on until the total destruction of WTC 1, and WTC 2 was complete - the so called Pancake Theory.

Like the bowling ball each impact would have retarded the progress of the falling floors to some degree.

In the particular case of the towers we can calculate the time to ground quite precisely (based on the known frame rate of the camera and other measurements). This has been done by various actors and there is general agreement on the time since it is patently obvious, measurable and based on video evidence from numerous sources which cannot be disputed.

Unfortunately for the real criminals, the skeptics, sheeple, the conventionally minded, neocons, the name callers, faux logicians, FOX viewers, Rudy Guiliani, the Base, and Patrick, both towers fell at the speed of gravity.

They fell just as quickly a bowling ball falling through the air from the same height would have fallen.

Since the Pancake theory requires each floor to impact and be slowed by the floor below, this would have inevitably added to the time required for total collapse. Yet they fell at the speed of gravity as though each floor was a fluffy cloud. (Patrick will answer questions about clouds in a later column)

So what happened? Numerous explosions were reported at lower levels and in the basement just prior to and following the impact. Video footage shows puffs of smoke and dust billowing out from the floors just prior the impact of the upper stories. There are seismic anomalies. Experts have called it a controlled demolition (some have retracted). You and I know it looks like a controlled demolition. (walks like a duck...)

Google the Reichstag fire, the Lavon affair, Project Northwoods. This is not "sci-fi".

Since September 11, some within the elite that Bush calls his "base" (or al Qaida in Arabic) have become immensely wealthy, there is now a quasi-police state in place, the neocon agenda as outlined in the PNAC document has either been implemented or attempted or is planned, over 100,000 people have been killed, America tortures, America abducts, you know the list. None of this was possible without the attack on America. Do you think the authors of this horror - based on a lie, would flinch at killing three thousand people to advance their agenda? Just look at the last five years. And it not "the government" its elements within, and collaborators from without.

I cannot tell you what happened. I can say that the official story is not credible in a truly astounding number of ways.

If Bush really believed that Bin Laden blew up the World Trade Center, then why isn't he looking for him? Why aren't you? It's only people that don't believe in conspiracies that are nuts.

The WTC towers

...did not fall in the same manner as a controlled demolition.

Controlled demolitions blow out the supports at the bottom and attempt to make the walls collapse inwards. Google the video of the J.L. Hudson building, IIRC, the largest building ever taken down by demolition. You will see the walls sagging down together, completely unlike the WTC collapse.

In contrast, the towers did not sag in any way: the buildings remained immobile until they were ground to pieces from the top down.

AS far as allegedly collapsing at the rate of gravity, this only means the lower parts of the towers offered little or no resistance to the collapsing upper part. As the collapse proceeded, the lower parts offered less and less resistance and the collapse occurred faster and faster.

What people often don't reckon with is the sheer size of the WTC towers, not just in height but in width. Compared to the towers, most skyscrapers are mere pinsticks. The potential gravitational energy of the 9 and 14 stories that were above the fires was absolutely enormous. Once the upper parts started to fall and added each floor in turn to their weight, then nothing on earth could have stopped or slowed or altered the descent of these parts. Thus the towers fell straight down 'into their own footprints.'

I highly doubt that progressive synchronized explosives could have made the towers fall faster. In the first place, I believe that explosives would not have made any more impact on the falling part than firecrackers going off inside an atomic bomb.

In the second place, had the towers been small enough to actually require explosives to stimulate a top down collapse, then such explosives might very well have ended up slowing down the collapse by providing upward resistance.
