So how do we get someone at Salon to put together that photo essay about catchers and their signaling fingers right in front of their...
Did anyone notice that in "Cracking the Code" NBC actually doesn't? There's a boatload of photos but no attempt whatsoever to decode the code. Does it take 20 photos to illustrate the two sentences saying that the players signal with their hands?
They are signs indicating what part of the court the blocker is attempting to take away so the defender has an idea where to try for the dig. The left hand indicates the opposing teams right side player and vice versa. Two fingers means blocking the cross court block and one finger means blocking straight down the line. With some minor variations that is pretty much it. The men do it to.
When a team has a dominant blocker that player has to serve then run up in time to block as well. The player at the net gives the signal for the blocker in that case. That is a lot of running and jumping in sand btw.
Sorry you missed it. It's about ass.
Oh I got it.
1 finger means the blocker will block the line, so the digger should defend cross court, 2 fingers means the opposite. A fist usually means the blocker will block right on the ball (rather than take out a portion of court).
