The end of the daily

This column is changing its skin, so it's not goodbye, just thank you.

The letters thread is now closed.

End/Beginning

King,

I just re-upped my Premium Subscription and I want you and the people at Salon to know that one of my main reasons for doing so was to support your writing. I have enjoyed your work very much over the years that you have been doing it.

I just hope that your continued contributions will be frequent enough that I won't have to sue for a refund...the ol' bait and switch con...

Really, love the work...don't disappear.

No . . .

Thank you, King, for writing a smart, interesting column all these years.

I'm sure a daily column is, at least occasionally, a grind. I look forward to the less frequent but more insightful, just as entertaining, big-brain edition.

Not that there's any pressure.

No, Thank you

Well, when I read the headline I thought you were leaving and I was about to cancel my subscription. So I was relieved when I actually read the column.

Thanks for the daily. Sad to hear it will no longer be daily. Hopefully, not daily means at least four articles a week :)

I was formerly a frequent poster, but my current job makes it harder to post. I miss being a small part of the conversation. On the bright side, maybe less frequent columns will make it easier to jump into the conversation.

Looking forward to continuing to be a reader.

Thanks

I very much enjoyed the daily column. I hope to enjoy the less frequent output even more.

Thanks for lots of good reading (so far)!

I'll stick with you. I've read most of your daily columns for years, even when they're about sports I don't follow (except baseball; I draw the line at pretending to enjoy anything about baseball). I'll continue to read them at whatever frequency they appear.

Thanks!

I hadn't thought much about it until I read this particular column, but I think I've read just about everything you've written over the last couple years, and I've enjoyed it immensely. Thank you and good luck in your new job, and I look forward to getting a bit more work of my own done each week.

Thank YOU

Your contributions to sports journalism are appreciated and sorely needed. I'll be looking forward to every one of your columns that much more now.

Monday, November 24, 2008 07:41 PM

Thanks!

I've enjoyed your column even though I'm not a sports fan, but because I like good writing. I learned from my mother that sports writers are among some of the best, and you are certainly an example of that. Many thanks, and I look forward to seeing more.

Ave atque vale! Gratias fero tibi!

I have had two favotite sportswriters in my life: Peter Gammons at the Boston Globe and King Kaufman on Salon.

King, please remember your brief TV career here on Salon. You delighted America with your minor league video piece. And, on video, you are the only Salon writer who looks better than his or her caricature. You might have a TV future.

You easily could find thirty-one Salonista King Kaufman fans who would write a sports column a month for free. I will do one, and send it for your approval.

Good luck, King! Long live Salon!

Rats

I think I've been a member since, well, when they asked for membership and a long while before it. I never joined for the sports column for sure but I have grown to expect a fun often very funny and always enjoyable column. I love sports but they don't rule my life and I kind of think KK is in that mold. There are some good sports writers, so I hear, but come on, can anyone even stand to listen to the likes of Frank DeFord. Thats when sportswriting takes a bad sour turn. They just stay in it too long and...ahhhhhh... join a local improv theater for godssakes.

But we don't have to worry about that happening to our KK now do we. Stay fresh and challenged and I look forward to whatever you decide to write about. Thanks.

No, thank you, King.

Your daily is one of the first things I check in the mornings. It's just the right mix of highbrow and bleacher fan, of academic and couch potato.

I don't know if I can take you in longer-form articles in an infrequent basis. I mean... if you're going to be the new Allen Barra, who'll be the new King Kaufman?

Thanks for making me laugh, making me think, and alternately validating my views on sports and challenging me to rethink some long-held beliefs.

Cheers.

The economic recession finally affects me.

No, King; thank you.

Your column is one of the first things I look for in my morning routine, just after I've got my coffee. The blend of humour, intelligence, and an honest passion for the subject matter is unsurpassed on the web as far as I'm aware. Your understandably rare posts on hockey are terrific, but it's been especially rewarding to read the columns on sports I don't ordinarily take much of an interest in (I'm Canadian; after hockey, there ain't much). I'll keep checking the site to see what's on your mind, but I just wanted to say thanks for taking on the daily grind.

Cheers,

Ian

Bye, from Mr. Buster!!!

more work

Aww, heck. This means less for me to read. I suppose that means I'll have more time to work during the day. Perhaps that's what the economy needs, more people working and less reading columns on the internet.

Thanks, King

Tiger plays fewer tournaments, but still wins more often. And is more fun to watch in the process. Good luck with the new schedule.
