Don't forget Calipari's classic quote...
...about Rose: "if he wants to do what's right for him and his family, he'll go pro. If he wants to do what's right for me and my family, he'll stay."

UPDATE brought to you by yours truly!
Dear King, and readers,
Since there is no hockey coverage to be found on this site anymore, I hereby provide one, free of charge.
Reigning Cup champs Anaheim Ducks are down 2 games to 0, their defense all but on vacation. Make that 11 years and counting for a team to repeat a Cup win. Calgary Flames overcame a 3 goal deficit last night to win 4-3 over the highly touted Sharks; Calgary leads 2-1. The Penguins, led by Sidney Crosby, are now up 3 games to 0 over last years Conference Finalist Ottawa Senators; yea, me too! Can you believe it?! As usual, the Sens fizzle in the playoffs. The first-place finishing Montreal Canadiens are up 2-1 in their series with their arch-rival Bruins; the Habs lost last night to Boston for the first time in 14 games, and they're lucky to be up in the series, as their top scoring lines seem to have disappeared. Sean Avery of the Rangers acted like a retarded monkey yesterday in front of Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, being in his face -- literally -- and acting like a clown (this intrepid reporter had NEVER seen anything like that; the NHL hadn't either it seems, as they made a new addition to their rule book TODAY regarding said buffoonery). The Avs and Wild are in the midst of a very exciting series, as are the Capitals (led by scoring leader Ovechkin) and Flyers. The perennial playoff warriors, the Red Wings, lost tonight to a spirited (though under-manned) Predators team. They now lead 2-1.
I think that's it. That wasn't so hard though.
More to come!

Sox Jersey
Right on about the Red Sox jersey story... as soon as I heard about it I thought it sounded more like a strategy to curse the Sox than the Yankees. I mean, a Sox jersey under the visiting clubhouse? Ho hum. What about under home plate? And when I saw that it was Ortiz' jersey they pulled out of there, I predicted his early-season slump would come to an end. He did get two hits Tuesday night, although one was a lucky bloop. Better to be lucky than good, right? Especially when Manny's providing enough firepower for both of them.

Yep, go pro, kids!
You go! Go get a share of the money they make off your talent!
College will be there... college will ALWAYS be there... when you're done and have a seven- or eight-digit net worth, if you want to get an education you can do it without the distraction of playing minor-league sports for free.
I hope that every single kid who can turns pro instead of playing four or five years, risking injury so his coach can collect HIS seven or eight digits.

Leaving College
I got a degree in writing in college -- had I written a blockbuster novel you're damned right I would have left.
My sister was a physics major. Has Bell Labs offered here a few million to do research there instead of stay in college, she would have left.
My brother is a sociologist. Had Oprah decided to give him millions to continue his research into rural agrarian socio-economies as it relates to water rights, he would have left college.
A business major gets $15M from Trump to start a new business? Gone. A music major has the opportunity to record a hit CD and tour for a year? Gone. A mechanical engineer invests a new WiFi system that covers 100 miles from one point? Gone.
Bill ... Gates.
The difference between athletes leaving college early and others staying to get their degrees is that the opportunity is there for the athletes to make enough money to live on forever.
College degrees are great and helpful, and it's a wonderful time. But it's not the only way to live and grow and become a good person, and we shouldn't pretend it is. Millions of people do not go to college and live wonderful, excellent lives complete with financial problems, happy kids, cranky spouses, little league ball games and jobs for 40 years.

We Just Went Through This
With Earl Clark at Louisville. He announced he was going pro and the call in shows were beyond belief. One after another about how this part or that part of his game is not ready. Some of the calls were almost desperate. Grown men. Saying they hoped Earl was listening, like their fan hooey would change his mind. Turn down the 30 grand per week pay checks Earl. Come back to history class at 8:00 in the morning and score baskets for Louisville for free to enlarge our fan egos. We are worried about you as a person too. Education is most important.
It's all total crap. The fan has no idea if he "is ready." And doesn't give a rats ass about Earl's education or growth as a person. All the fan knows is that he is a damn good player and with him gone Louisville's prospects for next year diminish greatly. And thus the fans ability to walk around with their chests puffed out and bragging is greatly diminished.

Similarly
The next night the topic quickly went to calls for the NBA to not allow players in to the league until after their junior or even senior season, or until they reach the corresponding age. Once again, for the good of the players.
And once again total shit. Those fans just want a guarantee that once their team-school sweet talks one of the high school superstars into coming, that they will have them locked up for several years with no vicarious ego worries about them leaving. So they can brag and pound their chests. So that they can get a sense of accomplishment from what someone else does.
-
And Finally
A few calls hoping Earl falls flat on his face in the NBA and ends up playing in some European league. Teach him a lesson for walking away from all their care for him as a person..........What a disaster. Travel and see the world and make a 150 or 200 hundred grand a year playing hoops.
