doesn't work, because you are trying to discern what happened in a three dimensional world from a two dimensional picture of the world, run through a phalanx of transistors and resistors and capacitors and transformers and wires and even sometimes through the air before you get to see it. Who is to say if the camera focused on the clock isn't ahead of or behind the camera focused on the basket? They can vary by as much as half a second.
As to officiating, the refs in a basketball game could call a foul on every play if they so choose, if not at the ball, then away from the ball. It's a physical game. Therefore if the refs call a foul, it's a foul, and if they don't, it's not.
We're human beings, not machines, and I for one have no desire to either be a machine or have one tell me what is real and what isn't...
