I Want to Know...
How you there on page 14 try and get away with insinuating that Mike Kryzyzewski is basically Knight-lite simply because K can curse up a storm on the sideline? And this is different from 99% of other D-1 coaches, successful and not, how? This is not some state secret that Duke or its fanbase tries to cover up - K is a hard-driving coach with a very low tolerance for lack of passion, stupid play, and yes a self-admitted control freak. Like basically every other successful coach at any level above rec soccer.
Where the difference between the two men lies is how they respect people outside their profession and yes the fact that K does acknowledge mistakes publically and privately. God knows I am not trying to canonize Coach K here, but I will not see him thrown under the Good-Riddance-Knight-Speed-Bus so easily.
And to those who cite Larry Joe's leaving IU as a sign of what a lousy coach Knight was, Larry Legend himself acknowledges that was mostly hardheadedness and homesickness that drove him into the arms of ISU, not Knight's cafeteria slight.
And finally, yes I whole-heartedly agree that RMK has long past his sell-by date. Clearly he was a great game coach in his day, and there is no way anyone who has played the game or followed the game seriously over the past 30 years can deny it. But his personality disorder on and off the court and unwillingess to compromise his beloved man-to-man D and motion O overwhelmed his ability to evolve with the game and its players and fans.
Don't worry, lotsa free time now for you and yer huntin buddy the Dickster, Bobby.

Bob Knight
Outstanding article again, King. Thanks for stepping up and telling the truth about the arrogant bastard. I remember my only final four game when LSU played Indiana on the day Reagan was shot. The next day the paper had an article about an LSU fan who saw Knight in a restaurant where they were both dining and congratulated him on his win. Knight made several disparaging comments about LSU and then shoved the fan into a garbage can. He was an ass and I couldn't agree more - good riddance!

Bobby Knight was my JV coach in high school. His first year out of Ohio State.
The first week of practice some goofy 15 year old screwed up the layup drill, and Knight hit him in the head with a clipboard so hard the clipboard broke in two.
Knight in two words: loudmouth asshole.
