Yes, Lynx, if the punishment truly is appropriate to the crime, there must have been some large benefit to the Patriots
Thanks. And I'll admit, I have no idea if the punishment was fair or not. Unfortunately, the way the Pats and the NFL dealt with this, we may never know.

Ironic? Responding is ironic now? Wow, that word gets abused.

Please... I'm beggin ya... just let it go...
They were caught and punished.
It may have been flagrant, but they got more than a 15 yards & loss of down for it.
In the name of all that's dreamy... LET IT GO!!!

@ Lynx :
Your posts are like rain on a wedding day...or a free ride when you've already paid...dontcha think?
-
lynx is 200% right
and whoever said that an inadvertant facemask is cheating - is an absolute fool.
Wes - how do you hillbillies cheat playing poker? You try to deceive in poker, not cheat. I reckon that would get someone shot down there in ol' kentuck.

Pandyora
Comparing my posts to an Alanis Morissette song? I really have offended you, haven't I?! My sincerest apologies.

Pace
I thought I told you to hit the road and help recruit more speed for Ohio State.

Dear God in Heaven
I know I'm not the most predicting man, but just this once...
I'm the most predictin-est predictor on two legs.
Pats 24-20.
But wait, there's more!
Manning goes to Burress deep in the first half over Hobbs (everyone else does it, why not them?) but it gets picked off by Sanders, as the Pats are looking for it.
Same play works beautifully in the 3rd quarter.
Moss gets called for offensive interference at least once. Chance it occurs in the end zone = 95%. The announcer will say that he doesn't really see anything on the replay. He will be wrong. Moss is held to 2 catches, tops.
Jabar Gaffney catches a TD pass.
Giants total two sacks.
Both Tynes and Gotkowski miss at least one field goal.
Maroney rushes for 120+ yards and picks up a gain of 25+ over in the 4th quarter.
Seau picks off a Manning pass.
Pats fans are biting their finger nails as the Giants close to 24-20 on two second half field goals, but that's the way it ends.
Send $5 and I'll tell you who the MVP is going to be (hint: it's not Dreamy).
Now, fergit all this talk of cheat cheat cheatin' and get predictin', y'all.

I purposefully drove over the speed limit. We all do. It's not an in the moment thing. We do it to get away with it. I don't know anyone that got caught speeding that stopped speeding because they got caught. Maybe they got a Radar to cheat better. Or took different roads.
But what there to gain by cheating? Well, Tom Brady eating fortune cookies in my bed is worth paying the fine, taking the class, bribing the cop. Whatever. Just move on.

Reason XI
Consider this phrase:
"Super-Patriots."
The thought is too horrible to contemplate further.

Lynx, write your Congressman! Help is on the way!

Interesting, we'll see if anything comes of it.
As for predictions? Giants 31 Pats 27
Pats have won too many close ones for the spread to be justified.

I enjoyed the article
Don't know what got up the asses of the readers who thought this was the Worst Article Ever or something. I laughed at the interchange, which I found to be an effective parody of the sort of mind-numbing sports talk I've been hearing too much of in the dead space between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. Of course, I laughed hardest at Lynx, who's apparently still got sand in his pussy. Oh, and there's been one other coach who had a first-round draft pick taken away from him for rules violations: Mr. Perfection himself, Don "I'm Considered Classy Because People Have Short Memories" Shula.

Geez
All this has top billing on the Salon front page. I hope we make a good impression on visitors.

If djavier finds your post funny, you may want to work on your comedic skills. After all, this is someone that comes up with comedy gems like who's apparently still got sand in his pussy
Wow, that's funny. I mean really. Quit your day job!
-
He Wasn't Trying To Make A Funny
With "sand in his pussy." That was his serious, literal evaluation.
-
Huzzah for Eli and everything, but he's really an just average QB.
The Patriots will score 40
The Giants won't score 20

I like sand in the vaseline
Hi visitors! Please leave you sand in the tub of petroleum jelly by the door. And remove your shoes.
-
the sand...
Lynx, you misunderstand me (what a surprise). I would never joke about you having sand in your pussy. I believe it is a serious affliction and I commend your courage in beating the Spygate dead horse so relentlessly while you suffer so.

On-the-field cheating
There's a big difference between an accidental hand to the facemask and the kind of guys in the NFL who have made a living for years by pushing the limits of holding vs blocking. They train on how to get away with stuff in practice. The coaches are in on it. So the "heat-of-the-moment" argument doesn't hold water. Some teams are really good at it. The Denver Broncos undersized offensive line regularly gets accused of shady blocking and everyone knows the coaches teach this stuff in practice. So Lynx and all those of you on the moral high ground, please direct your attention to these cheaters as well. And it's happening on your favorite teams as well. I have a great suggestion on how to curb all those ridiculous false-start and holding penalties that are A) cheating and B)annoying to watch: hand out yellow and red cards. You get called for a penalty and it's a "heat-of-the-moment" thing. You get called for the same penalty twice, your a cheater and you have to sit out the rest of the game.
I plan on making this my noble cause for all of next season, so I will be posting ad nauseam until I can finally convince football fans that it's the only morally acceptable option. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's a conspiracy. We may never really know how much this affects the game because the NFL has decided to keep it under the radar. But I know a guy whose about to tell all.
