  • What kind of person are you?

Xy: In response to a documentary about an incredibly hard-working, accomplished, and admirable young man

He's a boxer, not a research scientists, social activist or public interest lawyer. He is entertaining perhaps, but not someone to emulate or look up to. His accomplishments are meaningless in the grand scheme of things, largely about making him and a corrupt industry lots of money.

    Xy: who is spiritual,

The Abrahamic religions always claim to be so 'spiritual' but then show marked obsession with petty things like what day of the week it is or whether you wear the right type of headgear. This "admirable young man" being a case in point of material obedience dressed up as spiritual merit.

    Xy: ethical,

Based on what? His participation in a famously corrupt corner of the sports world fueled by gambling, exploitive power brokers, etc. He physically assaults another human being for money (albeit in a mutual agreement), what more need be said.

Xy: athletic, and so much of what aspire to be...

Oooh, that's what humanity needs right now is someone who can play sports well. Are you a high school administrator in America by any chance?

Xy: You just trash Judaism and call him violent and superstitious.

What set me off is that I donot undertsand this man being given any attention on a progressive news site. He is an ultra-conservative personna. Only because he is NOT a Christian is he fawned over by Salonista. Kaufman brought him and his faith into the line of fire, so I leveled due criticism.

He's a boxer who won't fight on a given day of the week. That makes him per definition violent and superstitious.

Xy: Answer one question: What kind of person are you?

The kind of person who rejects violence, blind obedience to authority, sexual inegalitarianism, homophobia, superstition and most especially the glorification of those things by religions (and few things glorify those aspects of human depravity like the Torah).

  • Apt comparison

I'm glad you mentioned Matisyahu because the comparison makes a lot of sense. They're both ethnic curiosities that are towards the end of flashy, overrated careers. That said I'm looking forward to seeing this movie and I hope King does more articles relating to the most exciting sport in the world.

  • King Kaufman Knows (KKK!??) Boxing

Have any of you guys looked at our King's curriculum vitae? King knows boxing. This is not just some last second stab at a deadline.

And, this Jewish boxer is a sheol of a lot more interesting than the shallow, arrogant fundamentalist Christian athletes and coaches we read about all the time. Notice that this guy debates whether he is, and whether he deserves, the adjective orthodox. That is far beyond the mental/spiritual league of most of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes guy we usually read about.

We should encourage our King to write more about boxing. We might learn something. King: This article reads as if you might be holding something back. Did this guy get into the big time and then fail? Please tell us more.

  • Is the movie actually good?

Your first paragraph, your theory, sort of damns with faint praise.
