I am generally a big fan of this column, but I wanted to make sure I understood what you were saying here. I was surprised to read the statement, "Depressing. Because who didn't love Marion Jones? And it's especially depressing for this column, which doesn't care if she took steroids. It's her nickel." I would read this to be saying that you don't care if athletes use steroids since they are paying for them? It is hard for me to imagine that this is what you meant, but I can't find another way to read this.
If this is what was meant then I find the perspective of the columnist depressing.
