Graduation rates for football teams would be horrible if it weren't for the fact that...
In the 2006-07 year, the graduation rate for all NCAA athletes was 63%. I'll pause here while the inevitable wailing, gnashing of teeth, and self-righteous cries that NCAA athletics is a business finish up.
In the 2006-07 year, the graduation rate for all students at NCAA institutions who weren't athletes was...wait for it...
62%. If you don't believe me, read the article: http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:4IPXU5LwfA8J:chronicle.com/weekly/v54/i11/11a03402.htm+%22Graduation+rates%22+%22student+body%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us
That's right, only 62% of all students graduated within six years of enrollment. Some quit and came back. Some transferred and graduated elsewhere. But using the same metric King used in his article, the bare truth is that fewer non-athletes graduate on time than athletes.
Put that in your next article.
