Michael Vick's 23-month sentence: NFL teams will be waiting to give him a shot.

You wrote: "It is interesting, in allegedly Christian America, how many people claim to embrace the narrative of penitence and redemption but at the same time flaunt their "moral clarity" by advocating not merely that this man do some serious time in prison, but that after he discharges that famous debt to society, he also be banned from making a living in the only profession he ever showed a talent for."

I know I'm coming into this late, but this is a curious statement to me. One it assumes that the NFL is the only Football league in the world...and,um, it's not. AFL, CFL, NFL Europe (still?) and countless other leagues exist. Sure he wouldn't make the same coin as in the NFL, but to say he's "banned from making a living in the only profession he's shown talent for" is just factually wrong. Furthermore, it's not like anyone is saying the man can no longer work, full stop. Ya know, there are literally millions of jobs he can do outside of playing football, playing football is not, and should not, be his inalienable right. If he wanted to play football for millions upon millions of dollars, well...he should've thought of that before engaging in such criminal behaviour.

That being said, there is no doubt in my mind that some team will take a gamble on him. The NFL, moreso than any other league (it seems) is about the bottom line. If it helps the team make money (and hey, if they win a few in the mix all the better) then they'll do it. I mean, look at the non-guaranteed contracts - it's pretty obvious that there's no other real consideration for the teams (like team/player loyalties etc) only making green and LOTS of it - come to think of it, maybe that's why the sport is so popular in the US, it's hyper-capitalism at its finest :)
