I agree completely
What were Favre and the coaches thinking when they started going deep, really stupid. The decision to kick that field goal was also completely moronic. The Pack WAS hurt by having some of their best D players out due to injuries though. I'm not sure how much the Boys established themselves as "Big Dogs" seeing as how they only won by 10 against an injury riddled team playing a second string QB. They also got that ticky tack pass interference call to get the last touchdown too. Was it just me or did it seem like the refs were clueless? Not just the interference call but also the play when the Pack stripped the ball from the receiver early on?

Don't stay up so late
Um, Favre's most recent game, where he threw all those INTs, was played on Thursday, not Sunday.
And teams may or may not *fare* better... but I am not aware of a verb, "fair".

C'mon Brett
Enough is enough. Announce this year is it and play it out.

Challenge this
King! No mention of how the officials gift-wrapped the game and handed it to the Cowboys? Or how insane it is that some calls can be challenged and others cannot? Or how insane it is that coaches only get two (or three) challenges per game? I must say, I'm somewhat surprised.
I am a fan of neither team, and the Cowboys definitely out-played the Packers, but given the huge role ridiculous rules and shoddy officiating played in the game's outcome, I was sure you would have something to say about it.

late field goal
I think all you guys complaining about the field goal kicked late by the Packers ignore the clock issues associated with going for it. If the Packers go for it successfully (sneak, 25-30 seconds or a timeout) and then don't score the touchdown on the next play, they'll likely run out of time before Dallas even has to kick their fieldgoal. Unless, of course, they stop the Cowboys early on, in which case kicking the field goal was just fine anyway.

The game already created controversy in S.F.
At the time of the draft three years ago Niner fans were hoping for Aaron Rodgers as the top pick. He quarterbacked at Cal and looked great. Not as many were aware of Alex Smith, who'd played somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.
After spending close to three years watching Smith getting creamed while overthrowing and underthrowing guys who can't catch some fans are wondering if Rodgers would have been better.
Who knows? He probably wouldn't have been any healthier.

thoughts about the game
1) What's the deal with refs (or umps or judges, or whoever made those calls) over-riding each other? On both those blown calls (the Harris strip of Owens, and the phantom pass-interference late in the game) the first ref made the call that went the Packers way, only to be over-ridden by another one...what's the deal with that? Is there seniority at play here?
2) Either Chris Collingsworth was high, or he's the most subtle comedian of all time. At one point he said "T.O doesn't want to be banging Al Harris all night" and later he complimented Ware by referring to him as "a tool" (but really he meant "asset"
3) Also with Collingsworth - what's with him claiming every person in the game was "one of the best in the league"? Al Harris is a fine player, but sheesh, lay off the histrionics Chris!
4) Rodgers really really impressed me...strong arm, quick feet..who knew?
5) What in god's name was Favre doing? Man, it's like he lost his mind for a quarter and thought it was 2005 all over again! I was staring at the screen dumbfounded.
6) You know what I never understood? How whenever the backup gets put into the game, the announcers always talk about how they have to simplify the offense, because he doesn't get the same snaps with the more "exotic" (god I hate that adjective for football plays!) plays. And without fail, they succeed with the simplified offense. Now why wouldn't a team just stick with the simplified offense if it always seems to work? I mean I know every offensive co-ordinator wants to be seen as a genius, but man...isn't the point to win games? Are these people just over-thinking things

It was inevitable
As soon as I learned that Jarret Bush was playing instead of Charles Woodson, and KG-B was out, I knew it was all over and the 'Boys' would take it. It meant the Pack -D could no longer play man on man, but rather "zone". And also that their secondary would now be no match for Owens and crew. And that's how it turned out. Even if Favre had been effective and 100% the Pack would have been one play short in a shootout with a diminished Pack defense.
As for Favre, he came out way too excited and greedy. Totally got away from the playing format that got the team this far. Instead of being conservative and going for high % (short, toward the middle) passes that eats up the clock and sustains a drive - he got reckless and greedy with overlong shots down the field.
If the coaches called these plays they deserve being put into the doghouse - or rather the Green Bay ice house in solitary for two days with only bread and water.
Interestingly, it was the backup QB Aaron Rodgers who played the game the way Favre HAD been before this fiasco.
As Deion Sanders noted in his post-game remarks, this game- at the end - didn't show much of anything if people are seeking answers to which team is better, Big D's Cowpokes or The Pack. In the end, Dallas won over a depleted Packer team, which only shows they can indeed win if given a handicap.
IF the key personnel of the Packers get back in shape in can play at 100% they might have a chance on Jan. 20. If not, well it was a good run while it lasted.

NFL Network Coverage Sucked!
I'm almost glad that a sizable majority of football fandom missed the game last night for the simple reason that NFL Network's coverage sucked!
Bryant Gumbel has the personality of a wet noodle, and I get enough of Chris Collinsworth on the 700 other football shows he's on every week. Plus, Collinsworth loves Farve after the kickoff, then one interception and he should suddenly retire. Is he calling the game or running for President here???
And were we the only ones who missed the 1st Dallas field goal because commercials were still going? Plus, the red line marking the line of scrimmage was very distracting, I kept thinking it was 4th down because that is how every other network shows it!
I guess since they are the only game in town they don't care how lousy and amateurish their coverage is. What a rip off!!!
