What is wrong with the "everyone else does it defense?"..That's more powerful than most defenses, and it's always belittled.

Charlie Weis vs Ty Willingham
King:
Please stop putting Notre Dame fans in the awkward position of having to deny racism. It sucks. No doubt some Notre Dame fans are racist, and have more patience for Charlie than Ty for non-football reasons. BUT, the reason Notre Dame sucks this year is ...Ty Willingham. He was a notouriously lazy recruiter, preferring to stay in South Bend during recruiting season, playing up to three rounds of golf a day. That's a well-known fact in South Bend. His recruiting class ranking went down each year, from very highly rated his first year to out of the top hundred his last year. This is Ty's last recruiting class, and the cupboard is bare. That's why Charlie's starting a freshman at quarterback. I have more patience for Charlie than Ty because Charlie is moving the program forward, Ty wasn't. It is just that black and white an issue, but not the way you keep insisting.

Reds game
Wouldn't that require 1) going to Cincinnati and 2) paying money to watch baseball? I'd rather just go to Costco and get the cheap dogs there...
-
The game SHOULD be forfeited
It's not overkill.
If there wasn't a very good chance that the info they intercepted could be used to increase their advantage, then why would they do it? Did it work before? Stupid to begin with, it's far more stupid to keep doing it unless it has paid off in the past.
The game should go to the Jets. No one knows how much of an unfair advantage the Pats had, so take the game away from them.

Wes
'cause in the end it is still wrong. That should be obvious even to you.
You're one of those kids that jumped off a bridge 'cause Billy did, aren't you?
-
Bring your dog night
I'd go to see that! It would be a better entertainment then the Reds have put out in years. Careful with the foul balls though. It's lunch and I need a hot dog.
-
No
I would not jump off the cliff 'cause Billy did...........Now if he had 5 thousand clams in his wallet, grabbing it and pushing him is another story.

rules redress
Whether the reason for the video ban is silly, fact is it is against the rules, the commish warned everyone, and here we are.
It might be for rights to the product, or it might be an artificial aid to memory, meaning a coaching staff couldn't go back and deconstruct the series of calls without a machine.
The rules committee meets every off-season to discuss rules, and this could have been changed.
And does anyone think that someone like Tony dungy would do this? I don't. Maybe that's why Peyton has been flapping like he does?

Rush to declare "cheating"
I think people need to calm down about the whole Patriots thing. At a minimum, the Patriots are guilty of a "rule violation." Whether this is "cheating" is another matter.
First, the camera was confiscated in the first quarter of the game. There is no evidence that the videotape was being transmitted up to the booth. Given these circumstances, the Patriots had no opportunity to use the tape to gain a competitive advantage on the field.
Second, there is no evidence that the Patriot’s organization or Bill Belichick condoned the camera. This could have been a coordinator freelancing on his own. Until there is evidence of intent, the charge of some vast Patriot’s conspiracy has no foundation.
On final note @ J T: there was discussion a year ago to allow all players on the field to have radio receivers in the helmets, but the NFL put the kibosh on it. I agree that this decision is foolish. If the quarterback and the offense has the advantage of instantaneous in-helmet communication, why should the defense have to rely on hand signals from the sideline?

Courage and sport...
"You could get killed every time you get into your car," he said. "You just don't think about it."
Or, to give another famous viewpoint:
A reporter once asked Tazio Nuvolari, the great racing driver, if he expected to die behind the wheel. He said he did. The reporter then asked how he got up the courage to do it, then?
"Do you expect to die in bed?" he asked the reporter.
"I do."
"Then where do you get the courage to get into bed every night?"

Pandyora
Ah, but their use of this technique is apparently common. Forfeiting this game wouldn't be just about that one game, it'd be about their habitually doing this.
And yes, it was confiscated in the first quarter as the guy kept signalling his side, even after being told to leave. We don't know how many tapes were run back to the bench in the meantime either. If the Pats gained signals then are the Jets supposed to try to change their codes mid-game to thwart the Pats having already stolen some?
Second, there is no evidence that the Patriot’s organization or Bill Belichick condoned the camera.
I know that with the current (mal)administration in Washington, it is out of favor, but I still think Truman was right. The top person is responsible for the actions of his underlings. Also, Bellichek is the one that'd be using the results of this. Claiming he didn't know about it is wishful thinking at best.

Last I checked
"Cheating" meant breaking the rules to gain an unfair advantage, which is what happened here. Its even more grievous than holding on purpose etc., because it's systemic. And let's face it, a team's signals are it's sole means of employing a pre-determined strategy.
Stealing someone's playbook is kind of similar (as oppossed to having some person leave it somewhere. This is NOT the same as a former player spilling the beans, he had a right to the knowledge he is sharing. The original team also has a whole off-season to change verbiage, not to mention that a player will only know half of a teams given plays (offense or defense) IF that. Some players only know their plays. Videotaping an entire game and stealing signals is not the same.
Any way you slice it, the perception of his genius is compromised.
