No to Matt Holliday but...?
I generally like Mr. King Kaufman's baseball talk (especially since I'm a Tiger's fan and lately there's good things to talk about, and I appreciated the attention he pointed to Ernie Harwell's recent commentating), but I find it odd that King would say "no" to Matt Holliday making the All Star National League outfield because Coors Field "gives him a boost," but "yes" to Barry Bonds. If, as previous columns suggest, Selig should be there to shake Bonds' hand when he busts Aaron's record, shouldn't Holliday get a chance to be an All Star, even if the air is thin at home?
Oh, also, I agree with the letter that begged that we not necessarily vote Jeter at short. I think he has a point about Jeter's defense, as can be seen in strange turns and throws he makes into the dirt that end up giving his genial first baseman a concussion and broken wrist. Also, I don't care for how he stares down and embarrasses anybody that makes a mistake, especially when he's part to blame. He knows how nationally seen he and the rest of the Yankers are. I feel like for all the talk of what a team leader he is, he more tears down and takes spotlights than anything.
I know that Leyland is managing the American League All Star team, but why don't we get a grassroots effort to write him in to start at some position? Say, first base? Ok, that's all.
