King Kaufman's Sports Daily

AC Milan scores first, and second, and beats Liverpool for the European Cup. What's better than a goal in a big soccer match? Plus: NFL trademark retreat.

UncleB72, and the UCL final

That would be because nothing important will happen in baseball for another three months.

As for the Champions' League final, that had to be one of the worst games I've ever seen. Just absolutely revolting. It actually made me slightly ill, physically. That's the first time I've had such a reaction, and I've seen some fairly disagreeable games.

Liverpool fans should rightly feel peeved about the refereeing, which was horrendous. There were dozens of decisions here and there that were miscalled, and a good number of those would have been scoring opportunities for Liverpool. At one point, Liverpool waited a full five minutes to make a substitution, because the ref wouldn't acknowledge the fourth offical. The final insult, of course, was when the ref called the game early, when there should have been at least another minute left to play. Benitez was rightly beside himself at the final whistle.

I'm not saying that Milan is necessarily undeserving. They took the couple chances they had and there's no evidence that they influenced the ref or anything like that, even though they have been known to do that in Italy. One can only hope that next year's final is a better game, with better officiating. It's hard to imagine that it could be worse.

UCL Final

Agreed the officiating was horrendous. I don't want to besmirch an entire group of people but German Refs and English Games? The Milan flopping was incredibly annoying. That direcdt kick was won on a flop...or so it appeared. It is no way to win a game. Still despite being a Liverpool fan, AC took their chances and Liverpool squandered theirs despite mostly dominating. That's football. The best team on the day doesn't always win, Liverpool knows that as well as anyone. I'm just glad the lads made it to the final. Maybe next year with Eto'o and Sabrosa the Merseysiders will challenge for the EPL title? Maybe? Hoping...praying....

Why was Milan even allowed in the CL?

Seriously? They got docked points for match-fixing. They should have been relegated to Serie B, just like Juventus. And there is no way they should have been allowed in the Champion's League.

That is not to say they didn't deserve the win on Wednesday. True, Liverpool outplayed them throughout the match, and anyone who thinks the officiating was not one-sided in Milan's favor throughout is either lying or stupid. But if you can't score, you don't win.

Please let Samuel Eto'o be on his way to Anfield.

Finally, someone brought up the UEFA Cup final. That was an excellent and compelling match. I wish, however, it had been decided before the penalties.

ENOUGH ABOUT THE FREAKIN DH

I am so tired about supposed baseball purists complaining about the DH. Would you rather see David Wells try to hit or BIG PAPI?! I can hit better than most big league pitchers. Who cares about the strategy of the sacrifice bunt, pitcher substitution (and isn't it more entertaining to leave the starting pitcher in the game longer rather than go to an increasingly mediocre middle relief?) - I want to see the best players on the field and that includes the best hitters, many of which DH. Where would Edgar Martinez have been? Would Big Papi be the face of baseball if he couldn't start because his fielding isn't good enough? The Bob Costas' of the world need to stick a fork in it already. Same goes for the wild card. So simmah simmah down.
