If Greg Oden
becomes a dominant force in the NBA, I'll eat my hat.
Blazers--->>trade down & get a 2-for-1.
Greg Oden + a multi-year, multi-million dollar gauranteed contract will turn into Joe Barry Carroll or John 'Hot Plate' Williams.
Mark my words. And lets have this discussion again 2 years from today.

Robert Parish
Robert Parish was one of 15 centers named as one of the "50 Greatest Players in NBA History." Yao Ming is probably the only new center that can be in the discussion about being better than Robert Parish. I would say that Parish belongs with other mid-level great centers:
Dave Cowans
Bill Walton
David Robinson
Nate Thurmond
Wes Unseld
Patrick Ewing
Moses Malone
Elvin Hayes
Willis Reed
I don't really know enough about George Mikan to place him on his level of greatness.
Parish is clearly not in the class of:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Wilt Chamberlain
Shaq
Bill Russell
I'm not sure I could rank the first group, but I think Parish has to beat out Bill Walton (and I was a big fan of Walton's playing) because of durability.

Bargnani
I'll bite. I am confident enough to go public with my opinion that Kaufman will have to eat his words about Bargnani not being worthy of being a top 3 pick.
-
Bargnani PS
By the way, Russell, Jordan, Chamberlain, Bird, etc,. etc. are not in this year's draft, just as they weren't in last year's draft. The only proper measure of how Bargnani stacks up, just as it will be with Oden, is how their careers compare with the others who were in their drafts.

Great Centers and Championships
By the way, of the fifteen centers on the list of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time, all but Patrick Ewing and Nate Thurmond won at least one championship.
I think Blazer fans would be happy with a second championship, to go alongside the one from 1977.

Soccer Shocker???
AC Milan 2-1 Liverpool
Q: How the hell did that happen?
A: Two of the most idiotic goals ever scored in a major game.
BOTH by Pippo "ZigZag" Inzaghi.
I know, I know. Niche work (if you can get it). And no one was watching.
All I can say is … hey, you missed … NOTHING.

PS Anyone know anything about a game called Hurling?

.500, here we come...
The problem for the Celtics -- and likely for the Grizzlies and Bucks as well -- is that their picks will improve their teams enough to keep them from getting an additional impact player in future drafts, but not enough to make them championship teams. Thus the draft is likely to doom them to ten more years of mediocrity.

CL Final
Hmmm ... well, Mr. Buckley, maybe they did miss nothing.
All I can say is I'm glad King wrote about basketball today instead. That way I can embrace my nicheyness with the other 100 million people who watched it.
I'll never walk alone ...
