Now that Don Imus has been fired, is our world a better place?
  • I actually agree with you

It is a very rare day indeed that I agree with you, King. However, I have to say that I think the media backlash regarding Imus' comments went too far. As a freelance journalist myself, and a high school coach, I found his comments disgusting and deplorable, but I also chalked it up to a perfect example of someone excerising their free speech. Were his comments ignorant, racist and sexist? Absolutely. But he is well within his right to say such things. Just as advertisers have the right to pull their support and we, journalists and general public, have the right to talk about what a moron he was for uttering those words about such obviously talented young women. Instead of demanding Imus' firing, various media members and outlets should have used this opportunity to discuss the issue(s). Unfortunately the media loves nothing better than to cover itself and kept pressing for something to happen with Imus, instead of opening a dialouge. I'm an optimist, so I keep hoping things will change.
