this is exciting. you are my eyes and ears king. please don't write the word 'couch' again -- it's kind of tough to take in an office chair.
"He's a working machine!"
Louisville's going all the way...........LOL.........One thing about them. When you look at the minutes their freshmen and sophomores have played, and the scoring they have provided (nearly 1,500 points to this stage) if they do much in this tourney, the announcers and media are going to start focusing on that youth. To this point there has not been much focus on Louisville. They will be ranked very high preseason next year.
Their freshmen alone have 31 of the 41 points.
Freshmen will be freshmen. In their last 2 games Louisville had a 17 point lead on West Virginia, gave up an 18-0 run, but came back to win. And they led by 11 against Pitt at the half, gave a 20-2 run to start the second half and lost.
Since the NYT is going to post their various contributors' brackets anytime now (can't wait to see Maureen Dowd's Catholic guilt-based/Oedipal rationale for her choices) why doesn't Salon follow suit? c'mon give us Cary Tennis, Garrison keillor, Camille Paglia, Steph Z's picks. You know we want them.
Explain to me again why Stanford was given a bid? BC v TT is a good one. Love to see ol' Bob win one if only for the press conference value. BC slumped badly down stretch in ACC.
Joan Walsh's picks. I'd like to take her out to dinner as well.
Wes, that's probably the first thing you've ever posted that I can agree with 100%. Don't worry Joan, I at least, am thousands of miles away and am not the sort of person who builds myspace shrines to anyone. I can't vouch for Wes :)
BC v TT game going faster b/c both Skinner and knight dislike calling extraneous timeouts. To their credit.
BC pulling away - Dudley is too much. UM starting to exert themselves. Or face the wrath of Coach 'Sweat, Gary, Sweat' Williams, who would never forgive them for losing to Davidson.
For some reason, I have this image of King and Buster sitting side-by-side on the couch. King picks up the remote during a TV time-out in the Maryland-Davidson game, switches over to Louisville-Stanford, and speaks quietly in Buster's ear...
"See that, son? That's not just a basketball game. That's your birthright there. That's your legacy."
Is a classic. I love her on the TV panel discussions when the pro-Bush invitees are running their mouths. She can say more with just a facial expression than any person I've ever seen.
Holy cow... it HAS been two decades since that Keith Smart jumper!! I guess that means my 20 year HS reunion in Indiana is coming up this summer. Props to King for being right about Knight.
Terrence Williams does almost nothing and Louisville wins by rout. That's hard to believe. He's their leader or near leader in about every stat.
What possessed you to do your running commentary backwards?
commentators as Butler pulls away from ODU...
"I really like the way Graves plays, a lot like Hinrich (kirk), low to the ground, great dribbler, hits the 3, tough kid good decision-maker..." o come on out and say it..."AND WHITE!!!" You wouldn't ever hear AJ Graves compared to say Calvin Murphy or Tim Hardaway...
GO DAWGS!!!
Creepy to root for Oral Roberts? A little, sure. But lots of schools have that problem. Like George Mason (slaveowner!), Brigham Young (polygamist!), or Xavier (Jesuit casuist!).
Although they didn't make the tournament, my favorite is Robert Morris, which gets shortened to Rob Morris on the SportsCenter scroll, leaving me to imagine the Colts outside linebacker valiantly going one on five against various Northeast Conference foes.
Anyway, at least it's just Oral Roberts. Does Bob Jones U play hoops?
I thought the same thing about Oral Roberts U. I can't root for any team that supports, by name at least, such reprehensible politics.
Gotta say, sure was happy to see Stanford get blown out. Now if Arkansas and Illinois follow suit, we can show just how clueless the selection committee was about some of their bizarre bubble choices.
And yes, I'm a Syracuse fan. (full disclosure?)
Oral Roberts? I was born and raised in Oklahoma and one of the many reasons I moved 1200 miles away was to escape Oral and his nutzoid followers. They don't call Oklahoma the buckle of the bible belt for nothing. Although, ORU, at times, has produced darn good basketball teams.
They didn't win away from home -- MSG doesn't count -- and they weren't even a top seed in the frickin' NIT. Waa waa.
It's hard to separate the team from the school. If you dislike Oral Roberts the school, you probably dislike Oral Roberts the team. But, that is the same problem considering any university with a strong religious component - Catholic (say, Georgetown) Mormon (BYU) or Evangelical Christian (Air Force).
I follow the Mid American Conference a bit and Oral Roberts puts together a good team year after year. Plus, as a Pacer fan, I fondly remember point guard Haywoode Workman, so I can root for the team and still not care for the school leadership.
