You did not need to diminish the contributions of Dennis Rodman in today's column. Rodman was not only one of the best rebounders who ever lived, but also one of the best passers and, on top of that, best harrassers (it was his pressure on Malone that allowed Jordan to make that famous steal, for instance). You will find VERY FEW NBA players who were essential components of two different championship teams, and an argument can be made that the Pistons would have won neither of their two, and Chicago would have lost at least one of their three, without him. (On top of what he accomplished on the floor in Chicago, he also acted as a lightning rod, as it were, keeping the dogs off Jordan -- back after a retirement oddly aligned to his gambling problems -- and Jackson.)
TO is an thrilling athlete but his balance sheet shows that he hurts teams more than he helps them.
Rodman helped ALL of his teams (with the exception of the Lakers, where he wasn't given a chance).
